3 Where water comes From? Collecting water Humans mainly collect water from rivers, lakes and underground stores of water. In poor countries they have to get their water themselves. But in wealthy countries the water is piped to where it is needed. In developing countries it is much harder to get water because a lot of it isn’t available. People have to walk long distances to collect it. How we get our water How they get their water

4 Results for using too much clean water Many people take it for granted that there will always be plenty of clean water. They think it does not matter how big their water footprints are. In many parts of the world this is now causing problems.

5 Water use indoors People use water indoors in all kinds of ways such as: Getting a drink Washing and cooking food Rinsing scraps down the garbage disposal Washing dishes in the sink/ dishwasher Running the washing machine Flushing the toilet, bathing and showering Every drop of water people use increases their water footprint.

6 Saving water indoors People who use less water in their homes have lighter water footprints. Here are some ways to save water in your home. Take showers instead of baths. Power showers use far more water than ordinary showers, so many people replace them with low-flow showers. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth. Fix dripping taps. Use the washing machine only if it full. Wash dishes in a sink instead of in a dishwasher. The dishwashers rinse cycle uses a lot of water. If you try and do these things you will be doing a big part saving water.
