Facial expressions

Can watching facial expression tell if someone is lying or not? QUESTION Can watching facial expression tell if someone is lying or not?

purpose The purpose of my investigation is to determine if someone is lying by their facial expressions. This is important to know because if someone is lying you can tell that they are.

HYPOTHESIS I hypothesize that if you watch a facial expression you can tell if someone is lying or not. I believe this because I think you can see their face when lying because they probably never made that face before.

PROCEDURES

MATERIALS None

VARIABLEs Manipulated variable: True or falls statement Responding variable: Whether facial expression could be read Constant variables: Saying a true or falls sentence Two sentences - one true and one false.

DIRECTIONS 1. Gather materials. 2. Walk to a student. 3. Ask the student to tell two sentences; one of the sentences true and one sentences to be a lie. 4. After listening to each sentence and observing their facial expression, record whether sentence one is true or false. Repeat for sentence two. 5. Ask the student which sentences was true or false. Record response. 6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for 4 more trials.

conclusion My hypothesis was correct. You can tell by someone’s facial expression if they are lying or not. If I could change the way we did it I would do 12 boys and 13 girls.
