COLORS

QUESTION Does color preference affect your choice?

PURPOSE The purpose of my investigation is to determine if color preference affects your choice. This is important to know because if I owned a store and I knew the majority of people liked a certain color, I would be sure to put that color everywhere in my store.

HYPOTHESIS I hypothesize color preference will affect choice. I believe this because I usually pick my favorite color out of any other colored things.

Procedure

MATERIALS One clear plastic container to hold gram cubes 15 black gram cubes 15 brown gram cubes 15 blue gram cubes 15 orange gram cubes 15 white gram cubes 15 green gram cubes 15 red gram cubes 15 yellow gram cubes 15 pink gram cubes A pencil and paper to record data

VARIABLES MANIPULED VARIABLE The colored object RESPONDING VARIABLE The color choices CONSTANT VARIABLES The amount of objects being used The amount of test subjects

1.Gather materials. 2.Get a clear plastic container. 3.Get 15 gram cubes of the following colors, black, blue, brown, orange, white, green, red, yellow and pink. 4.Put all of the gram cubes in the container. 5.Go to my first test subject and ask them to pick ten cubes from the container. 6.Record the colors picked. 7.Put the cubes back in the container mix it up. 8.Repeat steps 5 - 7 for four more trials using the same test subject. 9.Ask the test subject what their favorite color is out of the colors available. Record their choice. 10.Repeat steps 5 – 9 with four more test subjects. 11.Record the number of times each subject’s favorite color was picked. 12.Calculate the percentage of times their favorite color was picked for each test subject. 13 Conclusion My hypothesis was incorrect. Color preference does not affect choice. The average percentage of subjects who picked their favorite color was 13.2%. Now that I have found my results, I would like to test something different. My new question would be, if you had the choice of inventing a color, what color would it be and would the color you want to invent be your favorite color?
