“Exploring the DiSC Dimensions”

Welcome and Overview Today you will ….. Become aware of your behavioral strengths as you relate to others Identify the potential contribution your strengths bring to relationships and teams Become aware of the behavioral strengths of others that may be different from your own Learn what you can do to communicate better with people whose strengths are different from your own.

Identifying Your Strengths and Weaknesses Review scoring sheet Add strengths and weaknesses Circle highest scoring column Identify the DiSC components on the scoring sheet Note to facilitator: Assist participants in working through the scoring process as necessary. Following the scoring process, have participants divide into 4 groups (D I S and C) before moving on in the session.

High “D” (Dominance Style) You will notice: Self-Confidence Decisiveness Risk Taking Tendencies: Taking Action Accepts Challenges Makes Quick Decisions

High “D” (Dominance Style) Motivated By: Challenge Direct answers Opportunities for individual accomplishment Freedom from direct control Getting immediate results New and varied activities

High “D” (Dominance Style) Limitations/Perceptions: Lack of concern for others Impatience Moving forward without considering outcomes May seem unapproachable Try to get the team moving before they are ready Can come across as blunt or demanding Strengths: Can make a decision when no one wants to Not afraid to confront tough issues or situations Accepts change as a personal challenge Keeps the team focused on the task

High “I” (Influence Style) You will notice: Someone who attempts to shape the environment by influencing and persuading others Sociability, enthusiasm and charm Expression of emotion Tendencies: Involvement with people Making a favorable impression

High “I” (Influence Style) Motivated by: Social recognition Group activities Relationships Freedom from control and detail Creative work Inspiring leadership

High “I” (Influence Style) Limitations/perceptions: Impulsiveness Disorganization Lack of follow-through May seem superficial in approach Strengths: Always available to others, gives time easily Good at inspiring others Easily gives positive feedback Very optimistic

High “S” (Steadiness Style) You will notice: Someone who sees a favorable environment which they want to maintain Someone who is cooperative, supportive, agreeable and likes to keep things stable Someone who achieves stability through cooperating with others Tendencies: Calm and patient Loyal and a good listener Concern for the group Over willing to give

High “S” (Steadiness Style) Motivated by: Infrequent change Stability Sincere appreciation Cooperation

High “S” (Steadiness Style) Limitations/perceptions: Can be seen as indecisive and indirect Needs a lot of information to embrace change Wants to say “Yes” when asked to help, but hates being taken for granted. Can feel resentment if not appreciated Strengths: Care about others and what is best for the team Friendly approach to colleagues and supervisors Seen as a mediator

High “C” (Conscientious Style) You will notice: Someone who tries to work within established rules, guidelines and procedures to ensure accuracy and quality Tendencies: Attention to standards and details Accuracy and diplomacy Indirect approaches to conflict

High “C” (Conscientious Style) Motivated by: Clearly defined performance expectations Quality and accuracy Being valued Atmosphere that is reserved and business-like

High “C” (Conscientious Style) Limitations/Perceptions: Fears criticism in their work Overly critical of self and others Indecision because of desire to collect and analyze data Can be hampered by the need to follow the rules Strengths: Thorough and accurate Certain to follow standards accurately Conscientious Diplomatic
