Opposition to the War Did everyone want war???? No- Republican party began to split on war issues. Enlistments began to decline on both sides. What did they do? South enlisted a Draft First the North tries using bounties Eventually they also enlist a draft

Avoiding War What were some ways men were able to avoid war????? In the South if you lived on a plantation with more than 20 slaves you could stay home In the north you could hire a substitute or pay the government $300 o avoid being drafted What do you think this did? Caused a lot of people to label this a “rich man’s war, but a poor man’s fight.”

Show me the Money What happened to the economy in the North??? They were able to prosper during the war because it actually had the factories and resources to support the war and the steady demand for supplies

And the South??? It lacked the industry to provide for the War Also the fighting occurred in the south so it destroyed most of its crops Inflation occurred, which is??? A general increase in prices In the south prices rose 9,000 percent to 80 percent in the North.
