What is hAQUAthon 2018 Following the success of the 2017 event, which brought together over 80 water industry experts, the hAQUAthon will return on the 27th & 28th November 2018 in Birmingham: merging data science, innovation and collaboration to drive innovation through a fun, informal event. "This was certainly the most innovative event I have seen so far within the water industry, which really sought to break down barriers for how Water Companies might collaborate" – Ofwat Our Partners The event is produced by decisionLab and Artesia Consulting in conjunction with Twenty65 and the Future Water Association all working in the sphere of data science application within water and beyond. The event will provide the opportunity to build new networks, identify real-world solutions to big challenges and accelerate innovation in the water community. The event aims to go beyond theory and “ideation” and yield actionable solutions. Series of smart case studies . Can be picked and chosen from a pack. Sharing knowledge and ideas The outcome in 2017 12 teams were able to pitch ideas to a panel of judges, resulting in a winning team presenting a possible solutions for better leak detection through real time consumption and visualization. “It was very rewarding to see the energy and enthusiasm of mixed teams from different organisations sharing ideas and working together to develop novel and exciting solutions. A really exciting innovation event for the water industry” Gordon Squire – Senior Consultant at decisionLab Left shows the winning team of “Smarticus” from 2017 Sharing knowledge and ideas We identified that innovation and knowledge was not always being shared across the water industry, thus impeding the implementation of new ideas. How does the hAQUAthon work? The problems to solve As with the last event we will break down the challenges into three categories. Water in the Home Water Supply Water in the Environment Teams will be able to select which challenge they wish to work on during the two days of the event. Each challenge is owned by a “Sponsor” that works alongside the organisers to define the parameters of the problem. The event Over the course of the two days the team members will work with supplied data to devise and develop a solution to be judged by the sponsors and organisers. The outcomes and winners will be judged and awarded various incentive and support packages from our partner to take the idea further – from test to proof of concept. Series of smart case studies . Where is the hAQUAthon? In 2017 the event was located in London. For 2018 the team have opted to move the event to Birmingham. The city allows great access from all over the country for the two day event, with our key partner Twenty65 being close at hand in Sheffield. The environment for the event is crucial to maintain a unique differentiating factor. Rather than select a traditional conference venue or hotel, we have found an inspiring venue that will spark new ideas and promote a relaxed and informal setting. Series of smart case studies . A unique and quirky venue

Who attends the hAQUAthon? The mix of people attending includes: • Techies or Developer • Computer Scientist • Data Scientist • Academic • Mathematician, Modeller, Analyst • Water practitioner • Business Development Managers They need not be even from the water industry - as cross sector thinking can also bring new ideas! Who attends the hAQUAthon? In 2017 we saw a varied mix of people and skill sets attending – from both the commercial and industry. How can you get involved as a Sponsor?
