6 CPC in Action: Nashik, India
International Team Before 400 students, 7–15 years old, plus 12 adult staff Only 4 water taps Limited water supply, poor pressure Inoperable urinals No light or airflow in toilet stalls After New water tank added to the roof New hand washing troughs and 25 hand washing taps Urinals flushing into tile lined trough Toilet stall doors louvres Water meters installed International Team Teams from India, United States, Australia, and Spain Before The school is home to 400 students, between 7–15 years old, and 12 staff Only 4 water taps available with limited water supply, poor pressure Urinals that did not flush Toilet stalls with doors that did not allow light or airflow – and we all know how important airflow is in a hot, humid toilet space After New water tank added to the roof, in order to improve water supply & pressure New hand washing troughs and 25 hand washing taps added (push taps used in order to reduce water wastage) Urinals flushed by re-used hand wash water drained into the urinal trough Toilet stall doors replaced with permanently fixed louvres giving light and constant air flow through the areas Water meters were installed on the various branch lines of piping to assess water use, tap performance, design performance and maintenance needs

IWSH Essay Scholarship World Plumbing Day Poster Contest Attracting youth by acquainting them with crucial importance of the plumbing industry in everyday life [define critical nature: Health tied to potable water and sanitary systems, however children are more open to new ideas and with education will drive hygiene concepts into their homes Two initiatives facilitate this connection: IWSH Essay Scholarship – open globally to all high school seniors or fulltime (12 credit hours) students enrolled in accredited technical school, community college/university or apprenticeship program World Plumbing Day Poster Contest – intended to debate, raise awareness & promote importance of plumbing and its connection to global health Prizes awarded to individual plus their school for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winning submissions
