Spanish Course Technologies E-mail Voice Assessments (WVLearns) Password resets for Email and WVLearns. Office of Instructional Technology

Office of Instructional Technology Email http://access.k12.wv.us:1081 Can be used at school, home, anywhere No computer configuration required Saves outgoing messages in SENT folder. Manually delete unwanted messages 200 megabytes of message storage (Increased from 50 megabytes). Messages in the “Inbox” will automatically be deleted after 1 Year. Important messages should be moved to folders other than “Inbox”. Office of Instructional Technology

Office of Instructional Technology Email Process to request an email for a student Students complete the Email Application The form can be found by clicking the “Download and print blank email applications” link at http://wvde.state.wv.us/Spanish The completed application will then be given to the School Email contact. If you do not know who the School Email Contact is, send an email to wvlearns@access.k12.wv.us The School Email Contact will submit the request electronically to the WVDE to be approved and keep the Email Application on file. Account approval by the WVDE and account creation will occur within 48 hours. Account details including the initial password will be sent to the School Email Contact. They will then contact the student to give them this information. Office of Instructional Technology

Office of Instructional Technology Email To download any files attached to an email, first find you message with the attachment (there will be a paperclip next to the message). Click on the link in the “Attachments” section. This will cause a popup asking where you want to save the file. Pick a location that you will be able to find easily (IE. Desktop) and click Save. Office of Instructional Technology Email To compose a message with an attachment, start by clicking “Compose” on the main screen. In the “New Message” screen, click on the “Attach” option in the menu. Another pop-up will appear. Click “Choose File” to select the file from your computer. Once selected, click “Add” to add the file to the list of Attachments. Finally, click “Attach” to place the attached files in the “New Message” screen and complete the remaining fields. Office of Instructional Technology WVLearns Dropbox Dropbox is used for assessments where the student will need to submit work to the teacher. Can be typed responses, attached files such as PDFs, Word, Images, Videos, etc. Will be used in conjunction with the new Audio Capture tool for Spoken Assessments Office of Instructional Technology

WVLearns Audio Capture New feature that will be used in place of Wimba Voice Email/Threads Enabled for all user roles used by WVVS Spanish Available anywhere you can “Add a File” (IE. News Posts, Drop Box, Discussions, etc). Office of Instructional Technology

WVLearns Audio Capture The Audio Capture Tool uses Flash. The first time you try to record using the Audio Capture tool, you will see an Adobe Flash Player Settings dialog asking for permission for Flash to use the microphone. Click “Allow” and check the box “Remember”. Office of Instructional Technology

WVLearns Audio Capture Steps to Record Click the “Record Button”. The record timer will start counting up. Press “Pause” to stop the recording. If you need to start over, click on the “Clear Link”. Once you are done recording, click on the “Add” button on the bottom right corner. Office of Instructional Technology

WVLearns Audio Capture Review the recording by clicking on the link in the “Files to submit” section. If you are unhappy with the recording, you can delete it by clicking on the Trash Can icon beside the link. Add any additional text comments that may be necessary and click “Submit”. USB Microphone in Windows XP Plug it in…The installation process usually produces no screens requiring user intervention. Installation is automatic. After hard drive activity stops, check the Sound and Audio Devices in the Control Panel Verify the USB microphone is successfully installed by the presence of AK 5370 voice recording device Office of Instructional Technology

To Get to Recording Settings Double click the Volume Icon on the Taskbar. The volume control shows the playback settings by default. To see the settings for recording; Click Options Select Properties Office of Instructional Technology

General Audio Troubleshooting Speakers plugged into audio output / headphone connection? Speakers plugged into power and turned on? Master volume and Wave volume turned up and not muted? Microphone connected correctly and turned on (if on/off switch is present) Correct recording (USB microphone) device is selected and not muted? Is the audio problem limited to WVLearns only? Office of Instructional Technology Password Reset Email Password Resets Send request on behalf of student to School Email Contact to have the account password reset. The school contact should received the new password within a few hours. Office of Instructional Technology

Office of Instructional Technology Password Reset WVLearns Password Reset On the initial page, click “Forgot Password”. On the next page, fill in the username (for students this is their 9 digit WVEIS ID) and click Submit. This will email the student a password reset link that will allow them to set a new password.
