2 What is the Benchmark Previewing System?
Allows teachers to preview online assessments before administering them to students Displays assessments exactly as they will appear to students This training module will cover how to preview a test in the Benchmark Previewing system. The Benchmark Previewing System is a tool that allows teachers to preview online assessments before administering them to students. Multiple benchmarks are offered for each grade and subject. In order for teachers to select which to administer for their class, teachers can use this system to preview the assessments. This system displays assessments exactly as they will appear to students. A list of benchmark assessments by subject and grade can be found on the AIRWays portal under resources. To view questions, the teacher must navigate through the test and answer questions, though they do not need to be correct. First we will discuss how to sign into the Benchmark Previewing system.

3 How to Sign in to the Benchmark Previewing System
2. Click Benchmark Previewing System. 1. Select your role. 3. Sign in. To sign into the Benchmark system, go to the AIRWays portal and click your user role from the listed role cards. The role cards include District Personnel, School Administrators, Teachers, and Technology Coordinators. You will then be taken to the appropriate user page. Next, click the Benchmark Previewing System button on the portal. On the next page, enter your authorized and password. The authorized is the same one for the Student and User Management system and the Test Administration site. Click Sign In to sign into the Benchmark Previewing System. Now we will discuss how to select the grade and test you’d like to preview.

4 How to Select a Test to Preview
Choose the grade level select Next. Select the test from the Available Tests page. Once you are signed in, you will select the grade level of the test you would like to preview using the drop-down menu. Click Next. The next page will show a list of all tests that are available. Select the test name that you want to preview. Next, we will discuss how to select the test form for a test, if applicable.

5 How to Select a Test to Preview (cont.)
After you choose your test, the Choose a Test Form page will appear. This page allows you to choose which form of the test you want to preview. If there is only one form or version of a test, the drop-down menu will have only one option or may not appear at all. If the drop down menu is present, select the test form option available and click NEXT to continue with the test preview. Next, we will discuss how to check the audio and visual functions of a test. If the test does not have audio or visual features, the first page of the test introducing the test tools will appear. Select the test form from the drop-down menu and click Next.

6 How to Check Audio Function
The Audio Playback appears on some tests and allows you to verify that any audio features the test may include are working properly. To perform the Audio Playback Check: First, click on the speaker button to play the sound to hear a sample sound. Then click on either I heard the sound or I did not hear the sound If you click I heard the sound, you will move to the next page. If you click I did not hear the sound, you will see a Sound Check: Audio Problem screen with the option to try the audio check again or log out. Next, we will discuss how to use the test’s menus and tools.

7 How to Use the Test Menus and Tools
This slide displays a sample test item. The Benchmark Previewing System includes several on-screen tools, including global tools and context menu tools. Global tools are those available on every page in the banner. These include the Zoom, Pause, Back, and Next buttons. The buttons on the left side are the navigation buttons, used to move from question to question, save a test, or pause a test. Please note that in a test preview, the save and pause buttons have no data saving function. Previews will not record or save any responses the teacher puts in during the preview. The buttons on the right side are test tools, used to help students interact with the content and answer options on the test. For more detail on the function of each test tool please see the AIRWays User Guide. The context menu displays the tools available for that test item. In this example, the context menu displays a Tutorial, Mark for Review, Speak Question, and Highlighter options. Next, we will discuss how to respond to items in the test preview.

8 How to Respond to Items Sample Item Question response types will vary depending on the test. Answer each question Follow all instructions on how to answer an item Answers will not be scored In the preview you will see each test item the way it appears for students. Depending on the test you are previewing, pages may have only a single item or may contain multiple items. When navigating through the test, you must respond to all the items on a page before advancing to the next page. Responses you enter will not be scored when you complete the test review. Now we will discuss how to navigate between questions.

9 How to Navigate Between Questions
Next and back buttons Questions drop-down menu will take you to a specific question. You can navigate to questions by using the next and back buttons in the navigation tools. You can also directly go to a questions page by using the Questions drop-down menu. In some cases, the questions in the drop-down menu may appear as a set, as shown here in this English Language Arts sample. This lets you know that the included questions are associated with a particular passage. You must respond to an item before moving to the next one. You can also move within a question set by clicking the item number buttons in the upper right corner of the question. Once an item has been answered, a green check mark will appear. Items do not need to be answered in order, but you must respond to all items before leaving the question set. Next we will discuss how to finish a test to end the preview.

10 Pausing Tests You may pause the test at any time. Pausing the test automatically logs you out of the Benchmark Previewing System. To return to the test, you must log back in and select the appropriate test and start again at the beginning of the test. To pause the test, click Pause in the banner. A pause test message will appear. Click Yes to confirm that you want to pause the test. As a security measure, you are automatically logged out and your test is paused after 20 minutes of inactivity.

11 How to Finish Reviewing a Test
Selecting the “Finished” icon and then selecting “Yes” in the pop-up window will take the teacher the questions’ review page. Once you have answered all questions, a Finished icon will appear in your navigation tools. This icon will not appear unless all questions have been answered. Again, no data is saved during a test preview, however, the system is taking you through the steps as if you were a student. To exit the preview, click Finished. A pop-up window will appear notifying you that it’s the end of the test. To continue, click Yes. This will take you to a questions review page.

12 How to Review Questions
Click the question number you want to review. All questions that were flagged for review will have a blue flag icon next to the number. Confirm you are finished reviewing by clicking “I’m done here.” The questions review page allows users to go back to review any question on the test. If a question was flagged for review, it will appear with a blue flag icon next to the number. Once you are done reviewing the questions, click the I’m done here button. A pop-up message will appear confirming that you are done reviewing the test. Click Yes.

13 How to Log Out Log out of the Benchmark Previewing System.
No answers are saved. Once you are done reviewing the test, click Log Out to return to the Benchmark Previewing login page.
