Arrival to School Students should arrive between 7:55-8:05 am. Children are marked tardy after 8:15 am.

When students are assigned math homework, it should be turned in the next day. Students should be reading a minimum of 30 minutes independently every night to increase fluency. Spelling – Their grade will be reflected on their spelling tests given on Fridays. Student should practice spelling words in a way that meets their needs.

Discipline Plan E = Exceptional Behavior S = Satisfactory N = Needs Improvement U = Unsatisfactory What is a RESET ? A reset is a short period of time to “fix” behavior.

Technology Visit our classroom websites to find important dates and other information, such as spelling lists, homework, and projects. The students will have time on the computers almost daily.

3rd Grade Curriculum….

MAP Testing Measure of Academic Progress Will be given in each of the 4 subjects (math, reading, science, English) three times a year (beginning, middle, end) The data is helpful to your child’s teacher in determining their strengths and weaknesses.

READING Reading is essential for success in all areas. Please… read with your child 20 minutes every night. Reading Log take turns reading and discussing what you are reading ask questions to check for understanding. reread to promote fluency. read all types of books: fiction, nonfiction, magazine articles, picture books, chapter books. Yes…even comic books.

I Can . . . Third Grade Student Learning Targets 1st 9 Weeks    I Can . . . Questioning  Generate questions about the texts I have read.  Determining Importance  Identify details or facts that support the main idea. Inferences (fiction)  Make inferences about text and use text evidence to support understanding in fiction texts.   Inferences (non-fiction)  Make inferences and draw conclusions from the facts presented in text and support those inferences with text evidence. Setting ( When & Where) Plot/Problem/ & Resolution Summarize/sequence the plots main events and explain the resolution of the story.  

Third Grade Math Learning Targets - 1st nine Weeks Reading and writing numbers to 100,000 in standard, expanded, and word form. Define and Model Fractions with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8. Compare and order fractions on a number line. Solve addition and subtraction facts with automaticity. Round to the nearest ten and hundred. Add and Subtract large numbers with regrouping.

Math Learning Targets Con’t. Solve Multistep Word Problems with Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division. Build and Name Fractional Parts. Name Whole Numbers and Fractions on a number line. (including Mixed Numbers)

Singapore Math Models Read through entire problem…reading is THINKING! List the “Who?” “What?” and Sentence rephrasing the question. Go back and re-read the problem, chunking it at all punctuation. Draw unit bar(s) as needed. Solve the problem using computations. Ask yourself if the answer makes sense with what the question is asking.
