DO NOW: 1. Take out your homework and packet. 2. Calculate the total area of the triangle. Remember: A= ½bh Choose 1 to find the area of:

Area of Parallelograms, Triangles, Quadrilaterals and Polygons I will be able to compose or decompose shapes into rectangles or triangles. So I can apply these techniques and the formulas to find the area of parallelograms or triangles. I will show I know if when I can compute the areas of at least 6 parallelograms and 6 triangles with my partners with at least 80% accuracy. 6.G.A.1

Language Objective By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use the language domains of listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will listen to and verbally communicate with their partners to find the area of triangles or parallelograms by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles. They will show their understanding by solving mathematical problems to compute the areas of triangles and parallelograms with their partners with at least 80% accuracy. Academic Math Language Vocabulary: triangle, rectangle, quadrilateral, parallelogram, trapezoid, decompose, polygon, base, height, grid, expression

Homework check-in (10 minutes) Please open up to the pages we were assigned for homework

Agenda Working with your partners, you will complete the finding the formula for area of parallelograms handout (front and back) (15 minutes) Whole class check-in (5 minutes) Afterwards, you will work with your partners to complete the finding the formula for area of a triangle (front and back) (15 minutes)
