Honors, AP, and IB Honors Classes Courses follow the district curriculum, but at a faster pace and include more instructional depth. Students who are successful in these classes usually perform in the top 10% nationally. AP (Advanced Placement) AP courses follow a nationally standardized rigorous curriculum developed by The College Board. Students who are successful in these classes usually perform in the top 2% nationally. In order to receive college level AP credit, you must pass the AP exam. These courses are available in 11th and 12th grades. Student Self-Assessment is located in the freshman handbook to determine if you are a good candidate for honors or AP classes.

Honors, AP, and IB IB (International Baccalaureate) IB courses follow the rigorous IB philosophy and implement instruction and assessment that support the IB Student Learning Profile. All colleges and universities in Idaho require 2 credits of a foreign language for admission. If you think you want to go to college, you will want to choose to take at least 1 year of a foreign language for your humanities credits. Colleges and universities outside of Idaho may have different admission requirements and will require your research.

Electives You will get to select several electives each semester all four years. Be sure to consult the Course Description Handbook online to look at all of your options. Mountain View High School – both the freshman handbook and regular handbook. PT Magnet Programs Handbook. If you are interested in specific PT programs, make sure to look at all of the prerequisites and when you need to take them! Tomorrow you will have a slip of paper attached to your planner that has the links to these handbooks!

What is the 4-Year Planner? State of Idaho requires each student to be complete a 4-Year Planner by no later than the end of the 8th grade year. Each student will plan out which classes he/she will take for all four years of high school and will write them down on the planner.

How will this help me? The Plan will help you select courses that will meet the District’s high school graduation requirements. It helps you explore educational career choices and plan for the next four years of high school so you don’t miss out on opportunities. The Plan is purely a tool to plan ahead— it may be reviewed and revised as needed throughout your high school years. You are not stuck with the classes you put on your plan. The 4-Year Planner does not register you for any classes at your high school.

Completing Your 4-Year Planner Tomorrow, you will receive your packet during your science class, which will include your high school registration information, along with one copy of the plan. Your name will be on both the planner and registration forms. Do NOT lose them! Your science teacher will go through the basics with you again tomorrow on how to complete your 4-year planner and you will actually begin filling out the required classes.

Completing Your 4-Year Planner You will need to take your planner and (registration packet) home with you on Wednesday after school. You should have already selected your required courses and will now only need to select your electives (the fun stuff!) The following resources are available for you: The High School Course Description Handbook for Freshmen outlines many course offerings and the graduation requirements for the 2018 graduating class. Mountain View High School Course Description Handbook is available online to see all of the courses offered at MVHS. The link is on the bottom of your 4-Year Planner. Professional-Technical School’s website to find the classes you must take for a specific program and the sequence you must take the classes. RMS, MMACHS, and MTCHS websites.

Completing Your 4-Year Planner We recommend the following: Complete the planner with your parent/guardian. Complete a draft of your 4-year planner on a separate piece of paper. Make sure you’ve looked at the courses available through the Profession- Technical Programs and place those classes/electives on your planner first. Make a copy of your final plan for your use later. Make sure you and your parent/guardian has signed the Planner! 4-Year Planners are due to your science teacher on Monday, February 24th!

MVHS Registration Make sure all sections of the form are filled out completely. Fill out the form with your parents. Parents and students must sign the registration form. Make sure you choose alternate electives. Make sure you like those choices because odds are that you may not get your first choice. If you know you are moving, you still need to pre-register just in case. If you have been notified that you have been accepted to RHS, MMACHS, or MTCHS, we encourage you to still pre- register at MVHS in case you change your mind.

MVHS Registration and 4-Year Planners are due: Reminders!! MVHS Registration and 4-Year Planners are due: When: Monday February 24th Where: Science Teacher Don’t forget that you AND your parent need to sign both the planner and registration forms!
