IR Hall in context of Central Region Sep. 2011 LCWS11 Global Design Effort

Current drawing does not show all of the life safety cross connections The geometry of the IR Hall, Damping Ring, PLTR and ELTR are inter related. The plan shows an estimated 20 meters of rock between Damping Ring and IR Hall for structural considerations. Arup to verify. Rock massing for IR Hall Stability for Damping Ring Current drawing does not show all of the life safety cross connections Sep. 2011 LCWS11 Global Design Effort

Parallel Sessions - September 28 am cont. Joint Session with MDI/Detectors T Lackowski - Overview of Central Region Development J Osborne - Status of ARUP Consulting Y Sugimoto – Update on Japanese Mountain Site K Riles – R&D Update for SiD Final Focus Magnet Alignment Several Different IR Layouts are Under Consideration Regional/Local Conditions will have an Impact on IR Hall Design Americas Region IR Japanese Mountain Site IR SiD IR CLIC IR

Parallel Sessions - September 28 am cont. Joint Session with MDI/Detectors Discussion Focused on Alternative IR Layout Proposed by M Oriunno Dimensions Still Need Verification by ILD “Z” Shape for IR Hall is the Consensus Shape for European and Americas Region Shaft Number, Arrangement and Locations are Still Under Consideration Overall IR Design Still Needs Review With Respect To: Detector Assembly Methods Crane Coverage Use of Platforms Detector Maintenance SiD IR

Plan Development Drawings presented at the July Arup meeting and criteria discussed at May Orsay meeting are the basis for current plan. “L” shape provides opportunity to explore functionality and structural competency of alternate designs. Shaft costs in RDR estimate approached 50 percent of underground excavation cost. Both the shaft size and the number of shafts are cost drivers. Date Event Global Design Effort

Vertical Hall Requirements Arup study will help determine platform height. Need to understand cryo distribution Date Event Global Design Effort

Crane Coverage Optimal crane coverage is an important feature for constructing and servicing the detectors. For top riding bridge cranes hook approach is 3.5 to 4 meter from end of runways and 1 to 1.5 meter from end of bridge. Cranes cannot reasonably or safely have over-lapping coverage. Crane and cryo distribution need to be compatible Date Event Global Design Effort

Cranes, Cryo Distribution and Rock Massing must be Compatible July Arup Meeting Sep. 2011 LCWS11 Global Design Effort
