School of Education Chapel – 9/13/2016 Attendance – make sure you sign the attendance sheet before you leave. Know the School of Education Process: see SOE Manual in the School of Education Group on MyMaranatha. Take & pass the required courses with a C- minimum. Pass proper tests & achieve required GPA. Complete proper fieldwork. Apply for & Achieve ULS. Apply for student teaching.

Required Freshman & Sophomore Courses EDUC 143 Foundations of Education HUEN 121 & 122 English Composition I & II CASP 111 Fundamentals of Public Speaking HUPS 131 General Psychology – Social Studies HUSO 141 Introduction to Sociology Freshman and Sophomore Fieldwork SEED 241 Secondary & Middle School Teaching Methods (for elementary and secondary majors) Human Relations Any courses offered only every 2 years

Testing ACT/SAT/CORE - Check the SOE Group Page for passing scores on your ACT or SAT to determine if you need to take the CORE tests. If needed, you must take the CORE tests by the end of your sophomore year. Praxis 2 Content Tests – Must be taken early in the semester prior to student teaching. Locate your test number on the bulletin board outside OM 201, or on the SOE group page on MyMaranatha. Foundations of Reading – Must be taken before student teaching. This is Required for all elementary and early childhood majors as well as LD minors.

Fieldwork Freshman Fieldwork should be completed by the end of your freshman year. Fill out application on SOE Group and email to margaret.handyside@mbu.edu. Mrs. Handyside will register you for EDUC 100. Download the FFW packet from the SOE Group. Student will make their own placement for Freshman Fieldwork. Sophomore Fieldwork should be completed by the end of your sophomore year. Fill out the online application on SOE Group, and email to margaret.handyside@mbu.edu. Mrs. Handyside will register you for EDUC 200. Download the SFW packet from the SOE Group. Mrs. Handyside will make the placements.

Junior Practicum must be completed one full semester prior to student teaching. Fill out the online application on SOE Group site and email to margaret.handyside@mbu.edu. Mrs. Handyside will register you for EDUC 300. Mrs. Handyside makes JP placements. Mrs. Handyside will email you concerning the required seminar & give you the syllabus. Portfolio Review must be completed. Student must receive a 2.7 average.

Student Teaching Application must be filled out before spring break if student teaching the following spring. Application must be filled out before October 1 if student teaching the following fall. The EdTPA requirements must be met during Student Teaching. Meet with your advisor before each semester begins to be sure you are on schedule. If your advisor does not schedule a meeting, please contact him/her.

Master of Education Accelerated Graduate Program  Undergraduate School of Education students may apply to be enrolled in the MEd accelerated graduate program in which 15 credits of courses may be taken which apply to both the undergraduate and graduate programs. The student must meet the following requirements in order to enroll:  The student must have a GPA of 3.00 or higher. The student must have achieved ULS prior to taking any graduate courses. The student must acquire the recommendation of his or her major advisor.

The student must apply to the MEd program and be admitted on a probationary basis. The student will fill out the “Intent to Enroll” form located on the Academics tab on My Maranatha under the Welcome section: https://my.mbu.edu/ICS/Academics/. The student must meet all key task undergraduate requirements; some courses may require an extra and/or different assignment(s) that graduate students do not have. The student must achieve a B- or better in each course in order to receive credit in the MEd program
