Presentation transcript:

Star Students Math 8/28-9/1 Literacy Calendar Birthdays This week we will begin Jolly Phonics! Look for a letter page to come home each day. This week we will be learning the letters s,a,t,i,&p. Have your child show you the movement that goes along with each sound. The goal is to have your child identify the letter and the sound it makes. We will also begin our “Handwriting Without Tears” book. When your child is writing at home please encourage them to start their letters at the top rather than the bottom. This will help to reinforce what they are learning at school. In Reading Workshop we will be reading “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do You See?”. This will launch us into our unit on colors and reading color words. Students are learning the procedures for rotating through centers and how to work independently. This is a process and will take a few weeks before our literacy centers are working efficiently. The children learned this week that they “can” learn anything. It might take a lot of practice, but they CAN do it. Calendar 8/28 – wear brown 8/29 – wear red 8/30 - wear yellow/ Parent Night (Parents only)6:30- 7:30 8/31 – wear blue 9/1 – wear green 9/4 – No School/Labor Day 9/5 – wear purple 9/6 - wear white 9/7 - wear black/Picture Day Birthdays 9/1 – Happy Birthday Abby! Math This week we will begin our Math program called Origo. Students will have a whole group lesson and then work in small groups to rotate through different centers. Our first Origo lessons will have the children making groups of and counting to 5. You can help your child with this by making sure that they can make groups of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Can they put the groups in order from smallest to largest? Can they count a set of objects? Occasionally your child will come home with a math homework page. Please have your child complete it and return it the next day. I will do my best to not send any work home, but there are weeks where it would be helpful to have some extra practice at home.
