Transverse sonogram of a right anterior shoulder in a patient with a chronic subacromial (subdeltoid) bursitis. A large, complex hypoechoic collection is seen immediately beneath the deltoid muscle. The bursal fluid contains some echogenic debris and the synovium appears thickened and lobulated below. The echogenic anterior surface of the proximal humerus is seen beneath the effusion with the hypoechoic rounded biceps tendon resting within the bicipital groove (arrow).
