A-C: Precontrast sagittal and axial T1 and sagittal STIR sequences show a large, somewhat lobulated dorsal epidural collection that is slightly hyperintense to the cord on T1 and hyperintense on STIR (arrows). This abscess extended from C2 to the sacrum! D: After contrast is given, the large epidural abscess shows characteristic rim enhancement (arrows). Epidural abscesses are often associated with infectious spondylodiskitis, though in this instance, there was no such evidence. Source: Chapter 11.
