Anterior sonogram of a shoulder with calcific tendonitis. Skin, subcutaneous tissue, and a thin layer of deltoid muscle are seen in the near field. A thin layer of fluid is noted in the subacromial bursa between the deltoid muscle and the supraspinatus tendon below. Echogenic calcifications are seen within the substance of the supraspinatus tendon. The echogenic and irregularly contoured humeral head is seen beneath the tendon. Source: Chapter 22.
