1 Other adnexal masses and conditions
Other adnexal masses and conditions. A: Magnified transverse TAS of corpus luteum (arrow) within right ovary having similar appearance to ectopic pregnancy. Hypoechoic center is surrounded by echogenic rim of tissue. B: Longitudinal TAS of group of endometriomas (arrow) that appear similar to an ectopic pregnancy. C: Longitudinal TAS of pedunculated fibroid (arrow) adjacent to uterine fundus, simulating appearance of ectopic pregnancy. Patient's pregnancy test was positive even though intrauterine gestation could not be depicted with TAS. D: Transverse TAS of patient with unruptured ectopic pregnancy adjacent to dermoid cyst. E: Transverse TAS of patient with cystic adnexal mass and positive pregnancy test. At surgery, ectopic pregnancy was found next to a cystadenoma of left ovary (curved arrow). F: Transverse TAS showing eccentrically located gestational sac (curved arrow). G: TV sonogram showing thickened endometrium (arrow) of nongravid horn of a bicornuate uterus. H: Left horn contained a gestational sac (curved arrow). (F), (G), and (H) of same patient. I: Magnified TVS showing a rounded mass near left cornu. J: TV-CDS of same patient in (J) showing rounded mass near left cornu coexisting with a 6-week intrauterine pregnancy. Only a portion of the intrauterine sac is seen. K: Photograph taken during laparoscopy showing round ligament fibroma (*). (Courtesy of Barbara Nylander, MD.) L: Composite TVS showing fluid in cul-de-sac surrounding a rounded structure. This most likely represented a cyst of Morgagni that arose from the fimbriated end of the tube. The presence of fluid surrounding it allowed its sonographic delineation. Initially, a yolk sac was considered, but a cyst of Morgagni was considered possible although not confirmed at surgery, because the patient had an ongoing pregnancy.
