1 A-C: A lateral view of the left knee shows that the patella is too distally positioned or “low-lying.” Hence, the term “patella baja.” There is extensive soft tissue swelling in the anterior aspect of the distal right thigh. The findings are consistent with injury to the distal quadriceps muscle or tendon, allowing the patella to migrate distally. Sagitally oriented PD and FS T2-weighted images of the same knee show a complete tear of the distal quadriceps tendon (arrows). Fluid extends through the gap. Source: Chapter 10.
