Welcome Crocodiles! 2017-2018

Teachers: Ms. Kepler: Reading/Language Arts Mrs. Laub: Math/Science Homeroom Teacher: Social Studies

Returning to Old Times Building opens at 7:30; breakfast starts at the same time. School starts at 7:55 and runs to 3:05 for K-3rd. Students will be marked tardy after 8:00. Mandatory tutorials from 3:05-3:35 Monday through Friday. Tutorials start August 28. Bus duty for bus riders.

Grade Level T-shirts Order forms due by August 29 (Tuesday). Shirts usually come in around 10 days later. Wear t-shirts on Wednesdays and on class field trips. T-shirts will cost $12 each. If checks are made out, please use black or blue ink. Central office can’t accept checks in other colors.

Information Packets “Keep at Home” side: schedule, email addresses, phone number, reading and math parent brochures, letter from nurse, Remind app instructions “Return to School” side: required forms packet, lunch application, tshirt order form

Attendance Expectations 90% Attendance is required for promotion (state law). Students can make up the work, but there is no way to make up the 6 hours of teaching and lessons that the child misses. There will be fun activities at the end of each six weeks for students that have excellent attendance (95% and better). Leaving early and coming late does cause hardships for your child.

Drop offs, Pick ups, Bus, Walkers Drop offs & pick ups will be in the back. If it is raining heavily, we will have the pick up area directly behind the intermediate building. PLEASE do not drop off in the front or by Lopez Bakery! Buses will load on Edward St. at 3:40. Front & back walkers as usual.

Remind App Sign up with 3rd grade access code. Teachers are able to send reminder texts OR emails. Numbers go through secure server so individual phone numbers are not made public. A handout with instructions is in the “Welcome to 3rd Grade” folder.

Homework Assignment sheet comes home every day. Please sign each night. Homework is to be done by the student. There should be NO parent handwriting on the page. Assignments done by a parent will not be accepted. Assignments should take no more than 30 minutes every evening. There will be an occasional project, but not more than once a six weeks.

Wednesday Folders/ AR Send back to school on Thursday. Look for weekly grade report and sign. Graded papers and important notices. Most information will be in the folder. Students will be going to the library once a week or before school. Students can test on books, but we are not assigning “levels” anymore.

Our Field Trips San Antonio Symphony/Lunch at Olive Garden in January Scobee Planetarium in the spring Fort Clark Days (1-2 hours) in March Limited seating at planetarium and symphony, so we can’t take extra parents.  Students need good attendance in order to get the permission slip.

Thank you! If you would like a conference, please email or send a note with your child. We look forward to starting a great year on Monday at 7:55 a.m. Don’t forget to stop off in the hallway and grab some free books!
