Today we will discuss… Bright Futures and other scholarships Community Service Dual Enrollment Graduation Requirements Getting ready for College / Tech School / Military Programming (Yep, that’s a lot of stuff…)

Bright Futures Florida Academic Scholars 3.5 weighted GPA on select core classes Test score: 1290 SAT (as of 8/4, subject to change) or 29 ACT 100 hours of documented community service Florida Medallion Scholars 3.0 weighted GPA on select core classes Test Score: 1170 SAT (as of 8/4, subject to Change) or ACT: 26 75 hours of community service Vocational Gold Seals Only for technical programs. Community Service Students must submit a community service proposal to have documented service hours. Hours are not required for graduation, only Bright Futures and scholarships. Service hours must be submitted to Guidance Counselor before graduation! Forms available in the Guidance lobby, Edsby and on the SCHS Guidance website.

Dual Enrollment / AP DE starts a college GPA, not doing well could jeopardize admission and it is hard to recover a low GPA. Students should take the AP exams to possibly earn college credit; Scores not received until after admission.

College Ready Grade Point Average Difficulty of curriculum (Important for seniors to take a rigorous senior year to better prepare themselves for college, also to be more competitive for admissions) Students slacking off in senior year will find the transition to university that much more challenging. University is at a much faster pace, students have less specific direction and requires a lot of self-discipline and work. SAT or ACT scores (all juniors will take SAT on March 1st) Look at school websites and visit college campus over Spring Break and Summer.

Community College/ Tech Schools Check entrance requirements (SAT / ACT / PERT / TABE). Visit campuses to check out what programs are available. Hillsborough Technical College has affordable career training. Many of their programs can be completed in less than 2 years!!

Military / Career Start meeting with recruiters. Take the ASVAB. Research apprenticeship opportunities through local unions.

Graduation Requirements (Refer to Graduation Checklist) 4 English 4 Math-include Algebra I + Geometry 3 Science- must include Biology 3 Social Studies- must include World History, US History, Economics, + US Government) 1 Practical or Performing Art 1 H.O.P.E. (Health + Physical Education) 1 Online Class 2 Foreign Language (College Bound Students) 8 Electives Reading courses will be scheduled as needed

Programming… Everyone should have a: - Programming Sheet - Pen or Pencil Make sure your name, student # and grade level are on the form!

Schedule Change Policy Schedules will not be changed for the following reasons: Student/parent does not like the teacher To have classes with friends Teacher is ‘too hard’ or ‘too easy’ The teacher gives too much work Student/parent change interest after ‘trying out’ a class Requesting a different lunch Just because you don’t need it… You must take 7 classes! Schedule changes will be made automatically for the following reasons: Completion of a summer school course (Florida Virtual/HVS) Incomplete schedule (missing a class) Two courses in the same period in the same semester Failure of a prerequisite course Master schedule conflict Dual Enrollment (once approved) Senior needing a graduation requirement To balance classes so that overcrowding does not occur

English If you are in English 3 Regular, you will write English 4 and circle Regular English 3  English 4 If you are in English 3 Honors, you will write English 4 and circle Honors or AP English Lit English 3 Honors  English 4 Honors or AP English Literature If you are in AP English Language, you will write AP English Literature AP English Language  AP English Literature

Math If you are in Geometry (C/D/F), you will write Math for College Readiness Geometry  Math for College Readiness If you are in Geometry (A/B/C), you will write Algebra 2 and circle regular or honors Geometry  Algebra 2 Regular or Honors If you are in Algebra 2 Regular (A/B/C), you will write Trig/ Math Analysis. Algebra 2  Trig/Math Analysis If you are in Algebra 2 Regular (C/D/F), you will write Advanced Topics. Algebra 2  Advanced Topics If you are in Algebra 2 Honors (A/B/C), you will write Pre-Calculus or AP Statistics. Algebra 2 Honors  Pre-Calculus or AP Statistics If you are in Algebra 2 Honors (C/D/F), you will write Trig/Math Analysis Algebra 2 Honors  Trig/ Math Analysis *Additional situations must be discussed with your math teacher.

Science AP Biology Agriscience Foundations AP Environmental Science AP Chemistry AP Physics Agriscience Foundations Astronomy Honors Anatomy/Physiology Honors Marine Science Honors Chemistry Honors Physics Honors

Social Studies If you are in U.S History Regular, you will write Economics and circle Regular. U.S. History  Economics If you are in U.S. History Honors or AP U.S. History, you will write Economics and circle Honors or AP U.S. History Honors  Economics Honors or AP Micro/Macro Economics If you have not completed the Government requirement, you can take U.S. Government Regular, Honors or AP.

Electives You must list 7 electives- please write neatly!! Make sure you choose (2) semester electives- these classes are italicized. Consider… Have you completed your practical/performing art? (A) Have you completed HOPE? Are you working towards being a program completer?

Important notes… This is YOUR opportunity to choose your classes for 12th grade!! Think carefully…we all know schedule changes are hard to come by. You must turn in the form with signatures from both your teachers and parents.

What’s next… Make sure that all blanks are filled in. Sign your programming sheet. Get your teacher’s signature/ approval for classes during academic advising days. Get your parent’s signature. Turn in your completed programming sheet to Homeroom by January 10th.
