Gibraltar School District Title I Program

What is Title I? Title I is a Federal program that targets students considered to be at risk for falling below grade level in reading or math Title I money is calculated from the amount of students who get free and reduced lunch Districts are asked to spend the money on either staffing or materials that directly benefit Title I students

How does Gibraltar spend its Title I money? Interventionists: highly qualified teachers with special training in reading and math Title I aides Materials and Training such as: Fountas and Pinnell leveled reading series Scholastic Fluency Library and Listening Center Add+Vantage Math training Michigan Literacy Progress Profile training

How do we decide who is falling below grade level? Developmental Reading Assessment - DRA level Star Reading MEAP MLPP assessments Add+Vantage Math Screening test Star Math

What interventions are done for reading? Guided Reading Make or Break Words Shared Pen Writing Leveled reading books Fluency reading, recording and listening

Advantages for Students Low student to teacher ratio Individual needs are met Take home books On-going assessments A child who is in the intervention program on average will encounter 1,000 more words per week than a child who is not in the program, or 4,000 words per month

In and Out The goal is to have a 12-16 week intervention, get students back to grade level and withdraw them from the program If a student is not exited, then other options will be examined The classroom teacher and the interventionist will decide if a student is ready to discontinue.
