1 Arnold Elementary Title I Program
Reading Recovery and Literacy Groups: What you need to know 

2 What is title I and who is it for?
Arnold Elementary has two Title I reading programs: Reading Recovery Literacy groups These programs are for students who are at-risk of not meeting the grade level exit goals for reading. Exit goals for reading: Kindergarten – Level 4 First Grade – Level 16 Second Grade – Level 28 There are benchmarks throughout the year that are used to determine if each student is making appropriate progress for his/her grade level.

3 Reading recovery® Our most intense reading intervention
Only for first graders having extreme difficulty with early reading and writing 30 minutes of daily, 1-on-1 reading/writing instruction with specially trained teachers in addition to classroom reading/writing instruction, NOT in place of it Short-term intervention 12-20 weeks

4 Literacy groups For any grade level
Small group instruction, usually 3 students to 1 teacher 20 minutes of daily reading instruction with trained teachers In addition to classroom instruction, NOT in place of it Short- or long-term intervention; groups are fluid and can change as student needs change

5 What to do if your student is in a Title I program
Communicate on a regular basis with the classroom and Title I teachers about your child’s progress. Ask questions about anything you are unsure of. Get involved! Come to conferences, observe a Reading Recovery lesson or a literacy group, ask your child what book he/she got from the library that week, listen to him/her read, read to your child, take him/her to the library, be in the know at all times! Use our resources: , follow us on , and like us on Facebook – Arnold Elementary Reading Recovery and Literacy Groups.
