What does DIBELS Next Measure at each grade level? First Sound Fluency (FSF) Kindergarten Letter Naming Fluency (LNF) Kindergarten & 1 st Grade Phoneme Segmentation Fluency (PSF) Mid-K to End of 1 st Grade Nonsense Word Fluency (NSF) Mid-K thru beginning of 2 nd Grade DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency (DORF) Mid 1 st Grade thru 4 th Grade Retell Fluency -- Mid 1 st Grade thru 4 th Grade DAZE - Silent reading maze comprehension --3rd and 4th grade There are “benchmark” goals for each measure that are established and tracked with an aimline throughout the year to see how students are progressing with each skill.

What labels are given to students by DIBELSNext results? A student who is at Benchmark is at grade level. A student who is Below Level is in need of additional strategic interventions. A student who is Well Below Level is in need of intensive interventions. ***Teachers meet in Grade Level Collaboration meetings monthly with the Principal and Title I Lead Teacher to review each student’s aimlines and their STAR group placement and programming.

DIBELS Next Assessment Schedules Benchmark testing of all students is done 3X a year. (Fall-Winter-Spring) Progress Monitoring  Benchmark students-monthly  Strategic & Intensive students – every two weeks.  Progress monitoring scores are placed on an aimline created between the initial fall benchmark test score and the end of the year target score. This allows teachers to see how close the student is to achieving his or her goal.

STAR (Student Academic Resource) 30-45 minute block for grades 1-4  Special Education to Special Education rooms  Strategic and Intensive students go to intervention teachers for small group instruction  Benchmark and Enrichment students are in a larger group with a classroom teacher

Kindergarten Interventions at Miami Since there is not a STAR time block for kindergarten, they receive additional support outside of the regular school day. The most in need are serviced through PAL (Primary Accelerated Learning). This class meets in the afternoon after the students have attended a regular kindergarten class in the morning. Additional kindergarten students are supported with a Learning Club that is intensive instruction 30 minutes before the regular kindergarten class.

Miami’s Schoolwide Reading Plan (K-4) What is it?  90 minute Reading Block Literacy Stations Small Group Instruction Large Group Instruction Home Connect Parent Reports  Sent home 3 times a year  Contain student aimlines to help parents track the progress of their students
