Welcome to our Maths Workshop Year 2

Welcome / aims To explain how Maths has changed under the new curriculum. To share with you a variety of methods that we teach the children. To let you have chance to experiment with certain methods. To ensure you feel comfortable in supporting your child / children are home with Maths.

New curriculum Harder and more challenging in all year groups More about depth and broadening then reaching up, a year group, to challenge or down to support Developing skills and using them in a variety of ways. Achieving all objectives – different to Years 1, 3,4 and 5. Assessment now – Written Arithmetic and PSR (one every half term)

New curriculum recognise the place value of each digit in a two-digit number (tens, ones) recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20 fluently, and derive and use related facts up to 100 recognise and use the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction and use this to check calculations and solve missing number problems. recognise, find, name and write fractions 1/3 , 1/4, 2/4 and 3/4 of a length, shape, set of objects or quantity identify and describe the properties of 2-D shapes, including the number of sides and line symmetry in a vertical line

Mental Addition

Have a go! Try and add using partitioning. There are 3 questions to try.

Mental Subtraction

Have a go! See if you can use the number line to work out the answer to the different subtraction questions. 26 – 12 = 34- 22 = 40 – 34 =

Mental Multiplication

Have a go! Use the squared paper to draw the arrays for the multiplication problem and write your answers. 4x2 = 6x3 = 7x3=

Mental Division

Have a go! Use the cubes and equally share the amounts to work out the division problems. 15 ÷ 3 = 20 ÷ 4 = 21 ÷ 3 =

Assessments Let’s look at some sample papers for tests that are used across the school half termly.
