2 National Curriculum Key focus areas for key stage one
To ensure all pupils develop confidence and mental fluency with whole numbers, counting and place value. Pupils should develop their ability to recognise, describe, draw, compare and sort different shapes and use related vocabulary. Teaching should involve a range of measures to describe and compare different quantities such as length, mass, capacity, time and money.

4 KS1 Place Value Count to and across 100 forwards and backwards, starting from 0 and any given number. Count, read and write numbers to 100 in numerals, count in multiples of 2,5,10 Given a number, identify one more or one less, Identify numbers on number line Count in steps 2,3,5 from 0 and in 10s from any number and backwards Recognise the place value of each digit in a two digit number Compare and order numbers from 0 to 100 using < > = symbols Read and write numbers to at least 100 in numerals and words Use place value and number facts to solve problems.
