Prepared Children Of Pinellas County Proposal Presented By Young St. Vincent member Kristine Violet on behalf of the Society of St. Vincent DePaul

The Society Of St. Vincent DePaul Established in 1833 The Society of St. Vincent DePaul is a Catholic Organization that provides for ALL people in need of assistance within the community. As a representative of the Young St. Vincent’s of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul, I come before you to propose a summer long event which will prepare children of low income families for the upcoming school year.

Why Is this Proposal So important? Due to the lack of opportunities, 70% of children born into poverty will remain in the lower income bracket. However this adversity can be overcome, mentorship and opportunities correlate in a very special place, the public school system. Students K-12 have the world at their fingertips; and this is where the PCPC comes into play. We must ensure that the children are prepared and confident to receive and retain the education provided.

Being prepared comes with many factors however by providing the following we can insure children can enter the school year without feeling behind their peers due to economical factors.

Having School Supplies Providing school supplies for students who may not be able to afford these amenities will be the main purpose of the proposal however we not only want children to be prepared we want them to be confident.

Knowing what Educational Resources are Available Informing families and students of what resources are available to them from the church, school district, and public library's.

Providing Realistic Goals Exposing children to mentors can provide insight that realistic goals such as attending college are possible. Mentors can be friends, local business owners, or even college students such as yourself.

How Can You Help? In order to bring this proposal to life the Society of St. Vincent DePaul of Clearwater needs volunteers. Once a week on Sundays four (minimum) volunteers are needed to collect and sort supplies from 9:00am-1:00pm. Breakfast consisting of protein and freshly baked pastries will be provided. Verbal volunteers are needed to recruit representative from local school districts and businesses to volunteer their time to attend the back-to-school send off (tables will be provided for representatives to set up informational booths).Cooks for grilling at the Back-To-School Send Off.   Verbal volunteers to inform all community members of the event Distributers of clothing and school textiles at the Back-To-School Send Off
