Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital All a family should worry about is helping their child live!

2 St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, is the first institution established for the sole purpose of conducting basic and clinical research into catastrophic childhood diseases, mainly cancer. St. Jude was the first desegregated hospital in Memphis and the region. It functioned as a totally integrated facility including treatment areas, dining rooms and bathroom facilities. The hospital’s daily operating costs are more than $2.0 million, which are primarily covered by public contributions.

3 St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (cont.)
St. Jude, which is non-sectarian, treats children without regard to race, religion, creed or ability to pay. St. Jude is the ONLY pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance. Families without insurance are NEVER asked to pay. Eighty-four cents of every dollar received supports the research and treatment at St. Jude. St. Jude has one of the largest pediatric sickle cell programs in the country.

8 Sunday of Hope™ Members of Kappa and the church community will be kicking off the Sunday of Hope campaign. Sunday of Hope is a program where Kappa members reach out to churches within their communities to host a special offering for St. Jude. Churches will host the Sunday of Hope on one Sunday during the year.

9 Sunday of Hope (cont.) Each alumni and undergraduate chapter is asked to identify a St. Jude chairman within your chapters and notify the Province Chairman The goal for each church secured is to raise at least $1,500. St. Jude will set up webinars to help educate your members about the program.. Chapter members will need to begin identifying churches in December/January and setting up program dates to host a Sunday of Hope program.

10 Sunday of Hope (cont.) To assist in securing a church, St. Jude will provide Kappa members with sales materials and other St. Jude information. St. Jude will provide a kit of materials to help execute the event including bulletin inserts, posters, and donation envelopes. Coordinators will officially register churches to receive materials once identified by the chapters. St. Jude will host a recognition event in Memphis for the top fundraising churches in October. We have an electronic copy of the Sunday of Hope proposal that can be ed to each of you. We did not bring a hard copy of it because there are fields in the document that need to be filled in to make it more of a personal ask.
