Course Information This course is designed to help students develop their proficiency in algebra, and to strengthen their understanding of underlying concepts. This will provide students with the necessary liaison mathematics to begin a study of Calculus. We will be studying basic algebra concepts, functions, graphing, polynomials and rational functions, logarithms, and trigonometry

Classroom Behaviors This is a predominantly teacher lead course with some time devoted to student discussion among themselves. We will discuss and review important concepts as a whole class with discussion points. Periodically students will work in small groups or with partners to practice specific skills that will be learned. Students must come prepared everyday in order to be successful.

Daily Requirements Covered textbook (there’s an app for that!) or mobile device or laptop or tablet Notebook/Binder Calculator Assignment Book Pencil

Calculators… We will be using the TI-Nspire calculators in class. Personal calculators are strongly recommended but not required. (Please turn in any “TI Points” for Texas Instruments purchases of calculators. WTHS can get “fun” things for our school!) We also will be utilizing the TI-Navigator system. We use the latest technology in our class LCD projector Edmodo, Reminder 101, School Site, MyMathLab etc. I use a variety of manipulates to enhance student learning and understanding.

Grading/Assessments Class work/Participation/Homework (20% of MP grade) Homework will be worth up to 5 points. There are approximately 20 assignments a marking period. Points are earned on a Rubric Basis… 90-100=5, 80-89=4, 70-79=3, 60-69-2, effort-59=1, Past Due or not completed=0 No make ups are permitted, unless absent. Quizzes (30% of MP grade) A quiz will be given at the end of each section(s). A review with topics to know, will be given prior to the quiz. All solutions to review are posted on teacher page. All quizzes and tests MUST be completed in PENCIL, IF NOT POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED. Tests (50% of MP grade) A test will be given after every 3-4 sections. An in-class review will be given prior to the test. Midterm and Final Exam (10% of Y1 grade) Midterm will be given the end of marking period 2 (last week in Jan./first week in Feb). Final will be given in June (tentatively). Some exemptions permitted.

Absent Policy STUDENTS are responsible for getting their missed assignments. Check homework calendar (on chalkboard). Check absent folder (in back of room) for missing papers. Talk with class mates regarding topics and work covered. If still stuck or confused, then to talk to the teachers to clarify.

Exceptions: Monthly faculty and/or department meetings. This is a FREE TUTORING service that everyone should try to take advantage!

Extra Credit Optional extra credit projects will be given every marking period. Due dates and instructions will be discussed when the project is issued. Extra credit will also be awarded by participating in Math League Competitions. Points will only be given for correct answers.
