1 Welcome to Pre-Calculus and Discrete Mathematics
Mr. Mark Leoni 22nd year teaching (16th at AHS) Married with 3 children (all boys- ages 13, 10 and 7) JV Boy’s Basketball Coach

2 Expectations I expect the following from my students everyday!!
Be to class on time. Have a pencil and calculator DAILY. Pay attention when I am talking or any other student is talking. Do your homework. Prepare for quizzes and tests. WATER ONLY: NO FOOD or SODA.

3 Components of Your Final Grade
Your final grade will be determined by: Homework/Class Participation in Activities Quizzes Tests/Projects

4 Percentages of Grades 1. Homework/Class Activites: 10% 2. Quizzes: 40%
3. Tests/Projects: 50% Items 1-3 will determine 80% of your final grade! Your FINAL EXAM WILL COUNT for the other 20%

5 Grades will be determined by:
70% % C 60% % D Below 60% F If a student is on the boarder line of a grade: Grade determination will be based on: 1. Completion of Homework 2. Participation in class

6 Extra Credit There will be opportunities in class to earn extra credit points, those points will be ADDED to tests, quizzes or homework. It is unlikely that there will be any extra credit projects to be done at the end of the semester to boost a grade. REMEMBER: participation in various class activities is your extra credit!

7 Homework Homework will be assigned daily, with exceptions.
All problems must be completed to the best of your ability. If you are unable to do a problem you MUST copy the question down and tell me what you believe to be the answer. Assignments turned in with just answers will not count. Homework will be checked periodically in a variety of different ways, not necessarily on a daily basis. Homework should not take more than 20 – 30 minutes daily. Due to time constraints, 40 minute classes, we will rarely be going over homework in class. Students must come in during tutoring time or before school for help. Times I am available vary during the year, it is the responsibility of the student to determine a time that works. Please come talk to me!!!

8 Quizzes/Tests There will be a test at the conclusion of each chapter.
There are 6 tests in each semester. There will be one (at most 2) quizzes during weeks that there is not a test. There will be at most 12 quizzes in a semester.

9 Materials Needed for Class
2” three-ring binder Pencil and Eraser. Graphing calculator.

10 Extra Help I am in my room (N183) daily at 7:10 at the latest and am available for help during periods 4, 7 and 9 daily. Come talk to me if we need to make time to meet for help! I coach JV boy’s basketball, after school is not an option during the basketball season.

11 Attendance/Tardy I expect each student to be in the room when the bell rings. Students who are not through the door when the bell rings, no matter how close you are, will be considered tardy. Multiples of four(4) tardies will result in a SATURDAY detention per school policy.

12 Good Luck If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. is the best option: I believe you find the class to be demanding but enjoyable.
