History of Race in Sports African-Americans, who in the past were isolated into black unions, have in less than five decades develop into the main ethnic group in basketball and football, in spite of the actuality that they merely compose 12.6% of the American demographics. At present, black athletes comprise 77% of the National Basketball Association, 64% of the Women’s National Basketball Association, 65% of the National Football League, and 15% of Major League Baseball

History of Race in Sports National Basketball Association National Football League In 1949, NBA did not have black athletes In 1950, the first black was hired by an NBA team - Chuck Cooper In 1958, the percentage of blacks in the common demographics were roughly the same proportion of blacks in professional basketball.
