Unusual Noises Screams Calls for help Breaking glass Crashing metal screeching tires no sound at all

Unusual Sights A stalled vehicle Broken glass A spilled medicine container Downed electrical wires Smoke or Fire

Unusual Odors Stronger than usual Unrecognizable odors Smell of something burning

Unusual Appearances or Behaviors Trouble breathing Clutching chest or throat Slurred, confused or hesitant speech Sweating for no apparent reason Unusual skin color

Good Samaritan Law These are laws that protect you when you help in an emergency situation

A reasonable and prudent person would: move a victim only if the persons life was in danger ask a conscious victim for permission before giving care. check the victim for life-threatening conditions before providing further care call 911 provide care until trained personal arrive

Reasons people do not act The presence of other people Uncertainty that an emergency really exist Uncertainty about the victim The type of injury or illness Fear of doing something wrong Fear of being sued Fear of catching a disease

Basic guidelines to reduce disease transmission Avoid contact with body fluids if possible Use protective breathing barriers Use disposable gloves Cover any cuts or sores you may have Do not eat, drink or touch your mouth, nose or eyes when giving first aid Do not touch objects that may be soiled with blood

Care Use the ABC’s

ABC’s A = Airway B = Breathing C = Circulation D = Decision

Airway Head Tilt - Chin Lift Look Listen and Feel for 5 seconds Looking at the chest, listen/feel for breathing

Provide 2 breaths (chest should rise) Breathing Provide 2 breaths (chest should rise)

Circulation Find the Carotid Artery Check pulse for 10 seconds
