Presentation transcript:

Many thanks for your continued support, Miss Brown. Newsletter Reception Class 27th January 2016 Literacy This week we have been concentrating on sentence composition! The children have been working extremely hard. They have been attempting to think and then write their own sentence about Chinese New Year. In our guided reading we have enjoyed reading two stories about Chinese New Year; ‘Lanterns and Firecrackers’ and ‘Dragon Dances’ . This week we have really enjoyed learning about the Chinese New Year celebration festival. We especially enjoyed making lanterns, lion masks and performing our own dragon dances. We have been looking at non-fiction books to retrieve information about this special event. Next week we will be reading the Chinese traditional New Year tale of Nian. This story links directly to Chinese New Year customs. Phonics This week we have learnt the following Phase 3 sounds; ai and igh. Over the duration of next week please can you complete these sounds in your child’s sound book. We have also been learning the following tricky words; me, be and was. Maths This week we have been learning how to make estimations. We have also been comparing our estimations to the total amounts. It would be fantastic if you could consolidate some estimation problems at home with your child. Notices . Homework: Please can everyone complete the phonics activity in your Learning Together Books. Please don’t forget to read every night and to continue to complete your sound books. Many thanks for your continued support, Miss Brown.
