What we do Analysis & Reporting Departmental Surveys University Wide Surveys Survey Design

What can we help you with Survey Hosting Collected Data Survey Design Data Analysis

Survey Design The key to obtaining good data is to develop a good survey questionnaire What are your objectives? Keep it short, but ensure you capture all the information you need What type of question will generate the best response? Structured Non-structured or open-ended

Survey Design Continued Clear intentions and clear instructions Make sure your questions are unbiased Use familiar language Order and grouping are important Formatting is important Ask questions that can be answered by your participants Ex. How much time do you spend every week studying? Ask one question at a time (don’t use double barrel questions) Example: How have the faculty and students responded to the new email systems?

Survey design continued Don’t ask “loaded” questions Don’t use overlapping alternatives Don’t use words that are indefinite in time or imprecise Most common to use 5 or 7 point Likert scale Degrees of opinion/agreement, importance, frequency, & likelihood Quantitative data that is relative easy to analyze Con- social desirability

Don’t forget to pilot your survey!!!!!!

Survey Hosting SNAP Surveys Qualtrix Online Paper Combination Automatically e-mailed invitations Optional participant tracking Smart phone and tablet accessible Online data analysis Optional SPSS and Excel output Paper Can be scanned Combination If needed, can combine online and paper surveys Qualtrix

Departmental Surveys Survey Toolbox All your surveys and results in one place! Online Analyses, SPSS and Excel formats We take care of all the hassle (No emailing, reminders, etc) Accessible at any time and from any location Support from the Office of Assessment Can be combined with other data (Ex. University-wide surveys)

Collected data We have data from: Graduating Student Survey Future Plans Survey CIRP NSSE Other local department surveys We also have sample questions from previously used instruments to help with survey design

Data Analysis & Reporting We can combine formats to make one dataset Help with statistical analyses SPSS & Excel 2 Semi-Competent Research Analysts Help with reporting Variety of formats
