9th Grade Typical Schedule Granville High School 2017-2018 (audio included)

Credits from Middle School If your student has taken Spanish I, French I, Algebra I, Geometry, Lit Survey & Comp, Biology, or Marching Band as a middle school student, these grades will appear on their high school transcript automatically. Your student may want to retake any of these courses as a 9th grader if they received a C or below in middle school. The middle school grade will not be calculated in their GPA if they retake the course or change their global language in 9th grade.

9th Grade Classes Literature Survey and Composition or Advanced Literature Survey and Composition U.S. History Math Science Global Language Some Form of Physical Fitness Electives (i.e. financial literacy course, fine arts) Study Hall Course Description Guide & other scheduling forms online!

Advanced vs. Regular The Advanced courses will move at a faster pace and require more time spent in outside of class work, such as reading and writing. Advanced Literature Survey and Composition Advanced Biology Advanced US History Advanced Geometry Advanced Chemistry Rest assured…our traditional classes are more than capable in equipping students for college-level work

Math Options Math See flowchart Algebra I Geometry/Advanced Geometry Alg. II/—took Geometry in 8th grade See flowchart

Science Options Science Biology Advanced Biology Chemistry/Advanced Chemistry—if taking Alg. II and has completed Biology in 8th grade Summer Ecology/Gardening is an extra science course available with Mr. Reding. Must have Biology credit first

Global Language: French, Spanish, Latin This is considered a core class by colleges. Most require a minimum of 2 years (of the same language) Many prefer 3 or 4 years (depending upon the selectivity of the college/university) Do I have the foundation to go into the 2nd year of the language? Consult with your teachers in this area Suggest retaking the 1st year if on track to receive a C or below Should I wait until 10th grade to take a language?

Physical Education Three Options Physical Fitness I – semester class during school year worth 0.25 credit (need to take two times to earn .5 credits in P.E.) Summer P.E. – summer school course taken first three weeks of the summer worth 0.25 credit (need to take two times to earn .5 credits in P.E.) Meets in the mornings $150 Packets available online PE Waiver—due Sept. 1, 2017, does not award credit This is not a combo deal!!! Students who use the PE waiver CANNOT take the Physical Education class and vice versa. Click here to access P.E. waiver: http://www.granvilleschools.org/CourseInformationSchedulingDownloads.aspx

IEP OR 504 PLAN If your student is on an IEP or 504 Plan and needs to be in specific courses, they will be hand scheduled by the special education department and administration to make sure students are in appropriate classes.
