Performance Profiling Performance Profiling has the following objectives; To identify areas that require psychological intervention To identify your psychological skills training objectives To aid your motivation and adherence to the programme To allow you to compare and copy successful/elite performers To monitor changes in your profile over time

Example of a performance Profile Wheel One example of performance profiling is the profile wheel. These clearly show the strengths and areas for improvement in a performance The wheel can be used to analyse both physiological and psychological skills In elite sport the wheel would often be filled out by both the coach and the performer This visual representation of a performers complete performance will lead to accurate intervention and strategies

Performance Profiling Move your post it notes up or down the table depending on your level of understanding (Top =green, Middle = amber , bottom = red) Have a conversation with the person next to you, what steps do you need to take to move the post it note up? Can you identify what performance profiling is and describe its importance to an athlete in relation to an improvement in performance(C grade answer) Can you use a performance profile wheel effectively to highlight psychological strengths and areas for improvement for an elite athlete, explaining your choices (B grade answer) Can you justify and link any strengths and weaknesses, and plan for how your athlete might develop these in a psychological skills programme (A/A* answer)

YOU HAVE 15 MINUTES TO COMPLETE THIS TASK You and your partner will need to carry out a performance profile on your chosen athlete You will need to discuss and make decisions based on your own knowledge and the fact file You may also wish to use previous work you have done on your athlete Can you explain at least 2 strengths and 2 weaknesses and give sporting examples? (B grade answer) Can you justify your explanation of his strengths and weaknesses, linking any explanations to other areas of the syllabus that we may have covered? (A/A* Grade answer)   Extension task – Can you begin to plan a psychological skills programme based on the strengths and weaknesses of your athlete? YOU HAVE 15 MINUTES TO COMPLETE THIS TASK
