KS2 Residential Programme This is the current programme (subject to change) Y3 Burwardsley 1 night (Summer term) Y4 Robinwood 2 nights (Spring term) Y5 Lledr Hall 4 nights (Autumn term) Y6 Bushcraft 2 nights (Summer term)

Residential to Burwardsley 2017 Tuesday 2nd May –Wednesday 3rd May Their first one!!

Meet the staff attending! Mr Bounds Mr Lister Mrs McAulay Mrs Jackson Mrs Quayle (First aid)

What will the children be doing? The programme is designed to compliment the geography/history curriculum. The programme meets the requirements for PE in that there are outdoor activities. The programme also encourages team work, develops thinking skills and promotes independence. Please note the itinerary is weather dependent.

A typical programme… Day 1 Day 2 9.30 Leave school at the latest Arrival at Beeston Castle (bags are taken to the centre) Lunch Walk from Beeston Castle along the Sandstone Trail Evening Camp fire Team games Nightline Breakfast Pond dipping Orienteering Den building Depart at 2 pm

Mobile Phones/Electronic devices Mobile phone signal is poor near the centre and mobile phones are not allowed on the visit. If there is a problem we will contact you – no news is good news! PLEASE NOTE: NO electronic devices will be allowed on the visit including Ipads/tablets or any type of cameras

On the morning of the residential… Children should arrive at the school through the main entrance with their belongings at 9:00 am ready for registration. The children will leave their belongings in the hall and proceed to the classroom. Parents are welcome to wait in the hall, ready to wave them off! We will leave school at 9.30 am, earlier if possible. If your child requires medication or has a medical condition you need to make us aware of this. All medicines should be labelled with the child’s name and dosage. All medicines should be given to Mrs Jackson on the morning of departure. Children who are travelsick and need tablets should be given them prior to departure and a dosage given to Mrs Jackson for the return journey.

Food! A packed lunch will be required for Day 1. It should be put into a plastic carrier bag with food and drinks that are in packaging/containers that can be thrown away please – do not send lunch boxes – it is just more for the children to carry on their walk back to the Centre. Please keep the lunch separate from the suitcase. Please send an additional drink and afternoon snack – the children will not require huge amounts of spare food as there is plenty at the centre. Health and Safety No snacks should be taken in luggage as this increases the likelihood that children may consider a ‘midnight feast’ and would share foods without allergy awareness

Sleeping Arrangements There is a dormitory for Girls and 1 for Boys Bedding is provided ! So no need for sleeping bags etc. If there are any sensitive issues surrounding bed time please speak to Mrs Jackson regarding this.

What to pack… Your child will need a rucksack containing their lunch and snacks, a spare jumper/fleece – to have with them if they get cold on the walk. If the weather is fine, your child may need sun cream and a hat. Children should arrive at school dressed ready for the walk – walking boots/trainers, track suit bottoms (not jeans), warm coat. Please pack old clothes as the children may get dirty! There are showers but as this is just an overnight stay we don’t intend to use them. Please include slippers, a book and a teddy (if appropriate) They can also bring a torch but this is not essential. Children do not need expensive clothing. They need to be warm and dry with comfortable footwear. The clothes should be items that you should not be concerned if they get ripped or dirty. All belongings need to be in one holdall or suitcase with all items named.

Item Tick when packed Medication if required (give to school staff)   Packed lunch (in rucksack - all in plastic bags and disposable bottle so everything can be thrown away) Several drinks and an afternoon snack (in ruck sack) Slippers Torch Walking boots or strong shoes (worn to travel) Waterproof coat (worn to travel) Small rucksack (for carrying lunch) Fleece or warm jumper (worn to travel) Hat (worn to travel) Scarf (worn to travel) optional Gloves (in rucksack) Thick socks – several pairs Trainers Nightwear Underwear 2 T shirts Sweatshirt 2 or 3 Track suit bottoms (1 pair worn to travel) Towel Face cloth Wash bag – soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb Teddy bear book
