Anywhere, Anytime Parent Information Sessions 2016 Bounty boulevard state school Anywhere, Anytime Parent Information Sessions 2016

Occurring in all Year 3 classes 2017

Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 Some facts and figures As referenced in the Coding Counts for Queensland report: 60% of new jobs require skills held by 20 per cent of the workforce 1 in 2 of the world’s entrepreneurs are between the ages of 25 and 44. 40% of Australia jobs are at risk of being automated in the next 10-15 years. 3 in 4 of the fastest growing occupations require science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related skills.

Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 What is it? Anywhere, Anytime will be a 1:1 learning environment meaning that every child in Year 3 will using an iPad as a tool for learning. Students will have the opportunity to engage in critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and innovation with the future in mind.

Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 Why year 3? Anywhere, Anytime integrates iPads as tools for learning that provide students with the necessary skill set to be prepared for their digital future. By Year 3, our students have acquired the foundations for independent learning. With NAPLAN online arriving in 2019, your child will be prepared for NAPLAN online when they are in Year 5 by being fully immersed into using the iPad as an effective tool for learning.

Why the iPad and not other tablets? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 Why the iPad and not other tablets? At BBSS, the B Connected program (our own BYOD - Bring Your Own Device) program has been running since 2009. Ever since then, iPads have been the chosen device to use at schools. They have proven to be an easier device to use that complies with our protocols. It has been proven by other schools that if devices (operating systems) are mixed, it can become very problematic for schools and the support of a BYOD program. Anywhere, Anytime will not operate to its full capacity if we are in a multi-platform environment.

Do parents/carers have to supply an ipad? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 Do parents/carers have to supply an ipad? As much as this is the preferred option, students who do not have their own iPad and require one as part of the Anywhere, Anytime program, will be able to access a school iPad. The benefits of bringing their own iPad will be the opportunity for children to participate in a seamless learning environment between home and school.

collaboration with the iPad Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 collaboration with the iPad http://images.apple.com/media/us/education/2016/1e867897 _5de3_45db_ac71_d635d1ccb5a5/teachers/vuc- sydmain/education-vuc-sydmain-cc-us- 20160407_1920x1080l.mp4

what is the recommended model? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 what is the recommended model? iPad Air or above Has to accommodate iOS 10 At least 32gb of storage iPad and iPad 2 will not be supported Avoid an iPad Mini if possible

Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 what is a mdm solution? MDM stands for Mobile Device Management. Currently we are using a MDM solution known as Lightspeed. By having all students connected to this (even ones with BYOD), will mean that student iPads can be managed allowing for apps to be pushed out to the iPad and rules being set for the iPad (location rules, appropriate apps etc) By being on the DET network, there are strict protocols in place with the use of websites within our own department.

what is the cost of anywhere, anytime? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 what is the cost of anywhere, anytime? Currently there is no cost. Generally, for devices to be enrolled in a MDM, there is a cost per iPad (example $10 per device). We will be subsidising families in 2017 as the program is introduced. For students who are not part of the B Connected program, there will not be a greater cost than $20 for the purchase of apps.

how will this look in the classroom? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 how will this look in the classroom? Students will NOT be on the iPad all day everyday. This is not healthy and as mentioned in the FAQs, this is not conducive to learning. The iPad is a tool for learning. Children will still be handwriting and still reading from books. Some hands-on activities can not be replaced by an iPad.

how will the teachers be prepared? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 how will the teachers be prepared? BBSS will be committing to ensuring the Year 3 staff are equipped with adequate professional learning throughout the year. This will include sharing of best practice, coaching and mentoring from specialist teachers and more.

What are the options of buying an ipad? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 What are the options of buying an ipad? Different organisations and companies have different pricing and buying options Some offer discounts to students Some offer leasing arrangements (leasing the device for 3 years and then upgrading or paying for the device outright) We are not entering any leasing partnerships with organisations or providers

What about security or theft of the device? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 What about security or theft of the device? The responsibility of the device is wholeheartedly on the child. You may wish to look at insurance for your child and their device at school. When children come to school, they will be required to unpack their iPad immediately from their bag, the iPad is then with the children. If the children leave the classroom (break, lunch) the classroom is locked. If the device has been left overnight, teachers ensure it is locked away.

does the school provide other equipment? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 does the school provide other equipment? With your child’s iPad, they will have received a charger and headphones. The charger stays at home. It is the responsibility of the child to ensure that the iPad is brought to school, charged, ready for learning.

Can a 3G or 4G Device be supplied? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 Can a 3G or 4G Device be supplied? Technically the answer is yes. For the safety of the students, if a 3G or 4G device is provided, the child must have the sim card removed before coming to school. This ensure that the students are on our school network and are able to learn in a safe and supportive learning environment. Children will not be able to use 3G or 4G internet at the school and doing so is in breach of the B Connected agreement.

Can i communicate with my child at school? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 Can i communicate with my child at school? The answer is no. During school hours, normal rules and regulations apply. The MDM solution will enable us to disable specific apps such as iMessage etc when on school grounds.

What happens if my child’s iPad is damaged? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 What happens if my child’s iPad is damaged? Your child is responsible for their iPad. Therefore, if the iPad screen is smashed or damaged, it will be up to the parent or carer to have this replaced. For example, if a child gives their iPad to another student to use and it is dropped by that child, not only is it breaching the B Connected agreement, but the iPad is the responsibility of the child (owner of the iPad). We invite parents and carers to invest in a durable cover that is child friendly.

What happens if my child’s iPad is damaged? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 What happens if my child’s iPad is damaged? As mentioned earlier, parents and carers may want to look into insurance that would provide cover for damages to the iPad.

what do the children additionally learn? Anywhere, anytime parent information session 2016 what do the children additionally learn? Digital citizenship Cybersafety Safe and appropriate use of the iPad
