Technology @ Roseville College 2013

Our ICT Vision To provide an outstanding educational environment that integrates technologies in teaching and learning and engages students in independent and flexible learning opportunities within and beyond the curriculum

Our ICT Aims Personalising the learning experience of our students and engaging them so that they become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens To use ICT where appropriate to motivate and inspire students and raise standards across the curriculum To ensure that availability is not a barrier to the learning of staff and students in the College

Our Aims To support staff, through Professional Development, and provide them with the tools for collaboration, management and administration To allow students to appreciate the relevance of ICT in our society and that they see it as an essential tool for learning, communication, finding information and for controlling and understanding their environment. To provide an environment where access to ICT resources is natural and seamless

Student Technology Each child from 2013 will have access to their own device: K-2: School supplied iPad. 3-6: School supplied laptop. 7-12: BYOT laptop

Why BYOT? Primary reason: Research and feedback shows that students take more responsibility and ownership of their own personal devices BYOT encourages students to learn with their own personal technology, and not just use them for social recreation It promotes deeper learning due to greater focus on concept learning.

How does BYOT work? Students need a laptop that is robust, has long battery life, and doesn’t take an eternity to start It should be covered by warranty, it should have accidental damage coverage or insurance In the event that it has an issue, then Roseville College ICT Department will issue a spare. Parents can bring an existing laptop that meets requirements, or purchase one from a recommended reseller or any other store

How does BYOT work? Laptops can be leased via Flexirent
Laptops can be hired from the school Parents who have difficulty providing a laptop for their daughter(s) should speak to Michelle Blood about special hiring arrangements. All content and resources will be delivered where possible via the Internet and Portal systems Specialist subject applications will be delivered via virtualisation at school and home.

Why a laptop, not an iPad? Laptops are excellent receptacles of information and they also allow students to produce work with ease iPads do not have the capacity to allow the girls to do everything we need them to do in our educational setting, and we believe they will at certain points provide limitations to student learning. iPad trolleys will be available to enable access to good educational apps

Digital citizenship From 2013 there will be a significant Pastoral Care focus on teaching Roseville students to: Be good digital citizens Ensure they understand their digital footprint Understand how to use technology as part of their lifelong self-education journey Understand how to balance social interactions between digital and physical communications There will be parent seminars in 2013 to assist parents in teaching digital citizenship
