Welcome to UKS2 Parent’s Meeting!

Attendance and Punctuality Attendance and achievement go hand in hand. Poor attendance can result in academic under achievement, difficulty in making or keeping friends, and loss of a child's confidence. Punctuality – if your child is late by 10 minutes they are missing an important part of the main teaching activity. e.g. we start our lessons at 9am.

Key focus of New Curriculum Reading Spelling Times Tables knowledge

Reading Each time you read with your child, please enter your initials or make a small comment in their reading diary. Books will be changed when completed. Children are expected to place their finished books, with their diary, in a tray for changing. These trays are checked daily. Books will only be changed if the diary has been signed by an adult.

Spelling Children will bring home a list of 10 words to learn each week. In class they will be revising the words but they should complete the look/say/cover/write/ check sheet at home. The children will be tested on their spellings each Friday.

Times tables All children by the end of Year 4 should know all of their times tables up to 12x12 We have a passport system in school where the children will be focussing on different times tables each week and then gaining stamps for the ones that they know. Times tables will be tested each Friday.

Homework There may also be occasional optional homework tasks. Reading Spellings Times tables to practise A piece of literacy homework linked to the work completed in school that week. A piece of maths homework related to the work covered in class that week. This will be given out Friday and collected in the following Wednesday. Homework club. There may also be occasional optional homework tasks.

Behaviour expectations The children have worked with the teacher to create a set of class rules and class expectations. In class we use the behaviour ladder as an incentive to reward positive behaviour. Each week 2 children are chosen to receive certificates in our commendation assembly and parents will be invited to attend these assemblies.

PE PE: Y5 – Thursday afternoon Y6 – Friday afternoon Children need: T shirt Shorts Plimsolls Tracksuit- navy top and bottom No jewellery Hair tied back

Sports development Wykeham will be holding try outs to children in year 5 & 6 for both girls and boys football teams. Our first match has already been arranged! There will also be tag rugby teams and cricket teams this year. Further details of these teams will follow.

School journeys and trips At the end of Year 6, children have the opportunity to go on a residential visit to Kingswood Each class will have an enrichment for the curriculum every half term. This may be a trip, a visitor or a workshop depending on what the children are studying.

After school clubs After school clubs will be up and running soon – if your child is interested in taking part in an after school club, please ensure that they see the sports coaches.

Clothing The children are looking very smart in their uniform with logos – please try to have jumpers with logos by the end of half term. Please ensure all clothes are labelled. It is the child’s own responsibility to look after their clothes but so much easier to find the owner of a stray jumper if it has a name in it!

Healthy schools Thank you for your support with the changes to break time snacks. For break time the children may bring a piece of fruit or a cereal bar. If your child has packed lunch, please avoid giving them fizzy drinks, crisps, sweets or chocolate.

General Please telephone the office if your child is unable to come to school for any reason. A note the next day to the child’s class teacher is always appreciated. If you have any issues or questions please feel free to speak to the class teacher (we are very approachable- honest!)
