Assessment Options for Grade 10 Testing Day Wednesday, October 19th

Grades 10 Students in grades 10 and 11 will have the opportunity to register and pay to take the PSAT this year on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 during school. We will start promptly at 7:45 a.m. Students in grades 10 and 11 who do NOT register for the PSAT will be given a practice ACT exam at the same time. Please view the following slides to determine which test is best for you.

Considerations for 2016-17 Sophomores Taking the PSAT Provides a practice testing opportunity for students wanting to participate in the PSAT/NMSQT as a junior. Score from the administration to sophomores do not qualify students for any NMSQT consideration. NOTE: The PSAT/NMSQT is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test which, when taken as a junior, can qualify a student for National Merit recognition that may also include scholarship offers.

Considerations for 2016-17 Sophomores Taking the PSAT Provides detailed feedback regarding the student’s performance that may be used for preparing for future PSAT, SAT, or other standardized assessments. Creates a College Board Online Account that will provide personalized study materials for the PSAT and SAT exam. These materials are based entirely on the student’s individual performance.

Considerations for 2016-17 Sophomores Taking the PSAT Provides AP potential feedback for students who are considering taking Advanced Placement courses in the future. This information informs students which Advanced Placement courses are a good fit for them. Requires registration fee of $18.00 available on Parent Vue through Monday, September 19, 2016. After this date, please bring check to BVNW to have your student registered for the PSAT. Firm deadline of 9/30!

Considerations for 2016-17 Sophomores Taking the Practice ACT Provides a practice testing opportunity for students wanting to take an ACT test in the future. Note: The ACT is the most commonly used college entrance exam by Blue Valley students; SAT tests are sometimes taken by students who want to attend colleges out of state based on their admission requirements. Provides basic feedback regarding the student’s performance that may be used for preparing for future ACT or other standardized assessments.

Considerations for 2016-17 Sophomores Taking the Practice ACT Ensures that the first time a student encounters an ACT is not as a senior depending on a score for college admission. Does NOT require pre-registration from the student. Any sophomore who has NOT elected to register for the PSAT will be automatically registered for the practice ACT in October.

PSAT Registration Deadline If you are choosing to take the PSAT, you must make your payment online with Parent Vue by 9/19/16. Or, you may bring check to BVNW Counseling office by 9/30/16 –firm deadline.

Wednesday, October 19, 2016 ALL grades 9, 10, and 11 will be testing throughout the morning. Check your room assignment BEFORE Wednesday morning so you know where you are going. Posters with your room assignment will be available in 100 hallway one week prior to test day. Please get a good night’s sleep. Eat a good breakfast with some protein. Wear layers of clothing in the event the room is hot/cold. Bring a photo id, calculator, and several number two pencils-NOT MECHANICAL.
