3 College Do your research
Apply as soon as possible – the earlier the better! (beginning Aug. 1 of senior year) Follow instructions Apply online

4 Have a back up plan Consider cost, location, field of study etc.

7 Know your deadlines Be sure to check these carefully!
Be aware of the December 1st deadline for many major colleges such as Texas A&M and UT.

8 Application Essays Take it seriously Follow exact directions on length
Make sure you addressed the question Make it all about YOU! Brag about accomplishments, share any hardships or difficulties, be creative/original

9 High School is Important!
Having a great SAT/ACT is good but, colleges look at the whole student: school achievement test scores recommendations essays extracurricular activities & community service

10 Community College & Technical School
Do your research Be familiar with application process and deadlines Do you need to take the SAT, ACT, or another entrance exam?

11 Visit Schools Demonstrate interest in the college by visiting and discover your “fit”: Juniors and Seniors have two college days that they can use each year Get forms from the attendance office three days before your visit Make an appointment with an admission counselor at the school you choose to visit Present document along with parent note upon return to AMCHS attendance office

12 Military and Service Academies
Applications for most military service academies need to be started by junior year Talk with your recruiter ASAP High school matters – you may get a better pay grade or more preferred jobs based on your grades

13 Workforce Take high school classes that prepare you for work
AMCHS offers many courses that will allow you to be come certified for such jobs in computer maintenance, pharmacy technician, nurse’s aide Brazos Valley Workforce Solutions – (979)

14 Money for college Complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as early as possible. Applications open October 1st and the deadline for completion is March 31st. Use financial aide offices at colleges. Use web resources fastweb.com
