The Many Faces of Radiologic Technology

What is Radiologic Technology or Radiography? IT IS THE ART AND SCIENCE OF USING RADIATION TO PROVIDE IMAGES OF TISSUES, ORGANS, BONES AND VESSELS THAT COMPRISE THE HUMAN BODY FOR DIAGNOSIS OF INJURIES OR DISEASES.

Radiologic Technologist or Radiographer RT.(R) ▪ An essential member of the healthcare team who uses ionizing radiation to produce quality images which help in the diagnosis of injury and disease. ▪ A two-year or 4-year degree are required.

Starting Salary Upon Graduation ▪ $19.00-$24.00/hour upon graduation OR $39,520- $50,000/year in this region. ▪ The national average salary from the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2014 was $27.65 or $57,512. ▪ Increases with experience and added competencies and credentials, ex. CT, MRI, Mammography, US, etc. ▪ Growth in this field is projected at 21 to 28% by 2022!!!

York Technical College Radiologic Technology Program

▪ Two-year (six semester) Program ▪ Nationally Accredited by the JRCERT, (The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology( ▪ Starts in May, summer semester ▪ Limited enrollment program; Accepting 19 students per year.

Admission Requirements ▪ High School Diploma or Equivalent PLUS: ▪ Minimum SAT Scores: ▪ SAT (within last 5 years) AND prior to March 2016=480 Verbal and 540 Math, plus a 95 on the Accuplacer Reading test OR ▪ SAT Since March 2016=480 CR/570 M ▪ Minimum ACT scores (within last 5 years) ▪ of at least 21 Verbal and 23 Math, also with a 95 on the Accuplacer Reading test

Admission Requirements ▪ OR ▪ COMPASS Placement tests alone prior to November of ▪ COMPASS Scores required minimum: English 70; Algebra 66; Reading 88. ACCUPLACER beginning in November of 2016: 75 Sentence Skill; 50 College Level Math; 95 Reading ▪ OR the Completion of the Health Science Certificate general education courses INCLUDING electives, with a GPR of 2.5 or above. (Math 110 and BIO 210 & 211 required). ▪ See the back of your purple advising sheet for courses.

Admission Requirements ▪ Students qualifying by the general education route must take a placement test. ▪ Students scoring lower than RDG 101 requirement on the placement test must enroll in the appropriate reading course(s) in order to qualify for entry into the program.

Admission Requirements ▪ Upon qualifying for the program, the student must pay a $50 processing fee in order to be placed on the waiting list in the CASS office located in the Student Services building.

Admission Requirements ▪ Students are required to attend an advising session with the Radiology program faculty prior to entering the program to outline all the details of your coursework.

Admission Requirements ▪ When your names comes up on the waiting list, a letter will be sent by Student Services informing you of your official acceptance into the program. ▪ Be certain you keep your contact information updated at the college! ▪ The letter will request payment of $100 nonrefundable, nontransferable deposit for confirmation of your intent to enroll in the next class. ▪ Response must be given by the deadline on the letter or you will forfeit your slot.

What happens next? ▪ Have a complete physical examination within 3 months of starting the program. This includes several blood tests for proof of disease immunity. ▪ Complete the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR BLS course. ▪ Provide evidence of medical insurance. ▪ Submit proof of payment for your Criminal Background check. ▪ Complete required drug screens and orientations at clinical affiliates.

Program Costs ▪ First Semester ▪ Approximately $1700 (financial aid will reduce this) ▪ Includes: tuition, books, uniforms, Hepatitis B Vaccine, Physical exam, CPR certification, Pb markers, Name tag, Liability insurance

Rad Tech Program Schedule ▪ First Year ▪ Classes: Monday, Wednesday, Friday ▪ Hours: 8:00-5:00 ▪ Clinical: Tuesday & Thursday ▪ Hours vary for rotation: 7:30- 3:30, 8:00-4:00, 2:00-10:00 ▪ Second Year ▪ Classes: Tuesday & Thursday ▪ Hours: 8:00-5:00 ▪ Clinical: Monday, Wednesday, Friday ▪ Hours vary for rotation: 8.5 per day

Upon Completion of the program ▪ You will sit for the national certification examination by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the ARRT, to become a Registered RT, (R). ▪
