2 Getting Started! Application to LFCC for all programs
Take placement testing – no appointment necessary: Placement testing not necessary if SAT scores are 520 or ACT 22 or > in math (within 2 years) Placement testing not necessary if SAT scores are 500 or > or ACT 21 in critical reading (within 2 years)

3 Nursing Programs at LFCC
Nurse Aide One course Practical Nursing 3 semesters Certificate Associate Degree Nursing (RN) ADN 4 semesters Transition option (LPN to RN)

4 Nurse Aide Focus on direct patient care, activities of daily living
1 semester, 4 credits Certification exam from state Long term care, acute care, home health Must be 18 years of age, take placement testing, show proficiency in MTE 1-3 and place into ENG 111 Admits in fall and spring – no application process

5 Practical Nursing (PN)
Focus on treatments, medication administration, patient care 3 semesters full time; up to 2 years part- time Licensure exam by state Long term care & primary care settings

6 Practical Nursing Admission Requirements: GPA minimum of 2.5
Based on last 12 credits of coursework Admission requirements must be completed by time of application Placement testing Completion of recommendations in English (must place into ENG 111) and Math (must show proficiency in MTE 1-6) Competitive Application Process Spring Application cycle Nursing Entrance Test (HESI A2)

7 Practical Nursing High school diploma or GED
High School grade of “C” or better: Biology Algebra OR College Equivalent: BIO 101 MTE 1-6 or MTH 120/126 w/MTE 4-6 or MTH 158

8 Associate Degree Nursing
Assessment, planning, directing of care 4 semesters full-time; up to 3 years to complete Licensure exam by state (RN) Acute care, hospice, home health, industry, schools Preparation for advanced nursing degree BSN, MSN GAA with certain colleges - students/counseling-advising-and-career-services/the-transfer- process/transfer-guide/

9 Associate Degree Nursing
Admission Requirements: GPA minimum of 2.5 Based on last 12 credits of coursework All admission requirements must be completed by the time of application Placement testing Completion of recommendations in English (must place into ENG 111) and Math (must show proficiency in MTE 1-6)

10 Associate Degree Nursing

12 General Education Courses
BIO 141 & 142, 150 (all within 8 years of application) BIO 141 completed prior to application and student must be enrolled in BIO 142 at time of application ENG 111 SDV 100 or 101 PSY 230 SOC 200 HLT 130 CST 100 or 110 or 138 PHI 220 or 227

13 Transition Program (LPN to ADN)
All admission requirements and general education units are the same as the traditional track. BIO 141, 142, and all within 8 years of application. All admission requirements must be completed at the time of application. All general education requirements must be completed by the application date or the student must be enrolled in the course during the spring application cycle (Student will receive a conditional offer if accepted to program).

14 Selection Criteria Application Complete? Nursing Entrance Test (HESI)
Transcripts: HS, College Placement testing completed and requirements satisfied by application due date? Resident of LFCC Geographic Service Area? Nursing Entrance Test (HESI) Score CNA – 2 points added to application (PN & ADN)

15 Pre-Admission Testing
HESI A2 tests knowledge in reading comprehension, math, and A/P Starting around Dec. schedule an appointment online with the LFCC testing center: resources/testing-center/testing-services/nursing- admissions-assessment-hesi-a2-exam/ Test length is approx. 4 hours and is approx. $44 May take test 2 times, 30 days apart; initial testing January & February only, retakes in March only Must achieve 45th percentile in each component, as well as for the cumulative score Study guide is available, info in link above Critical Thinking will be a component that is scored

16 Pre-Admission Testing cont’d
LPN applicants will take the LPN to ADN Entrance Exam (approx. $49): students/campus-resources/testing-center/testing- services/hesi-lpn-to-adn-transition-entrance-exam/ Entrance exams may be used for 2 application cycles only. Required scores change annually.

Middletown Campus Transition 16 – 24 seats Fauquier Campus ADN 20 seats Fauquier Campus Transition 8 seats Middletown Campus PN 24 seats

18 Conditional Acceptance
Background Search & Drug Screen (summer prior to entering program) Physical Exam (summer prior to entering program) Course completion Concurrent pre-requisites completed with a “C” or better

19 Be Sure Your Application Is Complete !
Only completed applications will be considered Student’s responsibility to assure application is complete, including, but not limited to transcripts, transfer credit, documentation of placement requirements in English and math, etc. Contact with specific inquiries Completion will be sent Must be complete by March deadline to be considered Deadline for applications will be posted on the website Applications are accepted in the Nursing Office at Middletown campus only. No applications will be accepted at other LFCC sites.

21 After Being Accepted Professional Liability Insurance
Sign and return Intent to Accept Offer of Admission Form Complete Background Search form; submit with payment to Nursing Office See your healthcare provider to have Medical History and Physical Examination form completed; receive any required immunizations Get AHA CPR certified Must be BCLS for Healthcare Provider Order Campus Laboratory Nurse Pack Information provided at orientation Attend mandatory orientation Usually in May or June HESI NCLEX Preparation Fee – beginning of each semester Professional Liability Insurance

22 After Being Accepted for LPN to RN Transition Program
Attend mandatory orientation session Usually in May Register for NUR 115 (summer semester) Order uniform All LPN to RN Transitions must purchase Professional Liability Insurance clearly identifying coverage as an RN student. LPN coverage is not sufficient!
