1 WELCOME TO THE PRACTICAL NURSE PROGRAM
GENERAL INFORMATION SESSION Judith M. Pelletier, MSN, RN, CNE, Director

2 What is the Practical Nurse Program?
Certificate Program Full Time Days (Monday to Friday) 30 hours per week for 10 months Part Time Eves – hours per week for 2 years 3 eves per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) OR 1 evening (Monday) and 12 hours on Saturday Prepared to work as a Nurse (LPN) in a variety of settings

3 LPN OR RN WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
_____________________________________________________________ LPN Primary Work Sites – Long Term Care, Community Health, Healthcare Provider Offices, Health Centers, Hospital Out-Patient Centers and Clinics, Corrections, In-Patient General Medical-Surgical Floors (selectively – varies greatly by location) RN Primary Works Sites – All of the above plus Intensive Care and other Specialty Units (Cardiac, Maternity, Pediatrics)

4 What are the prerequisites?
NO COURSE PREREQUISITES REQUIRED

5 HOW DO I APPLY? (TWO STEP PROCESS)
STEP ONE Apply to the program ($25.00) Register for Entrance Exam ($85.00) [TEAS – Test of Essential Academic Skills] *must take exam at UCT The TEAS may be repeated twice; in other words, three attempts per admission cycle Tests administered throughout the academic year (4 hours). Reading (53 Questions) Math (36 Questions) English (28 Questions) STEP TWO Must have H.S. Transcript OR GED Results Send in transcripts for any College Courses taken previously Three References Interview with Director Health Clearance, Immunizations (agency requirements) CPR Certification Health Insurance Required throughout the Program

6 When are the interviews?
Upon passing all three sections of the TEAS, applicants are interviewed Nancy will contact you to schedule an appointment Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment to complete required paperwork

7 When will I know if I’ve been accepted into the program?

8 Letters are sent no later than late March/early April for classes beginning August 2018
Acceptance and Wait List Letters Deposit of $1, due within two weeks of acceptance Seat is secured after deposit paid

9 How Will I Pay my Tuition?
Full Payment by: Bank Check or Money Order Award of Financial Aid is due two weeks prior to the start of classes (August 2018)

How big are the classes? Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School Full-time Days: up to 60 Students Admitted (30 students per classroom) Part-time Eves: up to 30 Students Admitted Clinical occurs at a variety of locations on and off Cape Everyone will have to travel! (10 students per clinical group maximum)

17 Does the program accept Transfer Credit?
Yes! If … If the academic institution was accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education and The course(s) was/were completed within the past TWO years Final Grade was a “B-” or better

18 What are your Pass Rates on the Licensing Exam?
Take the licensure exam (NCLEX-PN) after Graduation *Additional cost $430.00 *Optional Prep course cost $350.00 First Time Pass Rate for 2016 = 98% [Average National Pass Rate for 2016 = 84%]
