2 Radiography Information Session
This is a required session that you must listen to when applying to the Radiography Program. At the end of the program, you will be directed to complete and submit some important forms. You will need to download and print from the program website the following: Program Information Handout Viewing Verification Form Radiography Program Application “NEW”

3 Program Accreditation
The Radiography Program at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Graduates receiving their degrees meet eligibility requirements to take the national certification exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Please Note: Eligibility for the ARRT examination requires that the candidate be of good moral character. Conviction of a felony or misdemeanor may indicate a lack of good moral character for ARRT purposes. It is strongly suggested that applicants visit the website below to download a special eligibility application to determine if a conviction would interfere with exam eligibility. ARRT Ethics

4 OCCUPATIONAL DESCRIPTION
The radiographer plays an important role on the medical team as a technical assistant to the radiologist; who is a physician who has specialized in the use of x-rays for diagnosis and treatment. A registered radiographer is qualified to work in hospitals, physician’s offices, clinics, public health projects, industrial medical clinics, veterans’ and military hospitals. 5 Program Description Program completion requires two years of instruction after formal admission into the program 18 students are admitted every August The program is a mixture of didactic and clinical coursework. You must maintain a “C” average in all courses. Some semesters may require as many as 30 – 40 hours per week of student involvement.

6 Technical Standards All radiography applicants should possess:
Sufficient visual acuity, such as is needed in the accurate preparation and administration of contrast media and for the observation necessary for patient assessment and nursing care; Sufficient auditory perception to receive verbal communication from patients and members of the health team and to assess health needs of people through the use of monitoring devices such as cardiac monitors, stethoscopes, intravenous infusion pumps, fire alarms, etc;

7 Technical Standards Sufficient gross and fine motor coordination to respond promptly and to implement the skills, including the manipulation of equipment, positioning and lifting patients required in meeting health needs related to radiologic technology; Sufficient motor skills (speech, reading, writing) to interact with individuals and to communicate their needs promptly and effectively, as may be necessary in the patient’s interest; Sufficient intellectual and emotional functions to plan and implement care for individuals.

8 Program Curriculum General Education Courses Required for A.A.S. Degree: ENG Writing I credits BIO Anatomy and Physiology I 4 credits BIO Anatomy and Physiology II credits MAT College Algebra credits AHS Medical Terminology credits PHY Applied Physics OR credits PHY 152 Introductory Physics II (3 credits) Social and Behavioral Science Elective credits Heritage / Humanities Elective credits Oral Communication Course credits *Computer Literacy must be documented by a competency exam or by completing a computer literacy course.

9 General Education Courses
All of the general education courses can be taken at SKYCTC or any other KCTCS college. Courses can be transferred from other Accredited Institutions. Please contact the college Registrar for clarification.

11 Clinical Education Component
Each semester includes a Clinical Education Course. Clinical sites are located in many areas both in and out of Bowling Green. Students cannot request specific clinical sites. All students should expect to have to drive to out of town clinical sites. (No exceptions) Students cannot go to a clinical site where they or immediate family are employed.

12 Clinical Sites Currently the Radiography program utilizes the following clinical sites: Caverna Memorial Hospital Graves Gilbert Clinic Greenview Regional Hospital Logan Memorial Hospital The Medical Center at Bowling Green The Medical Center at Franklin The Medical Center at Scottsville Monroe County Medical Center T.J. Health Pavilion T.J. Samson Community Hospital Western Kentucky Diagnostic Imaging *This list is subject to change without notice.

13 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In order to be considered for admission to the Radiography Program, each applicant must FIRST: Apply for admission to Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College. Submit all required documents listed under the SKYCTC Admissions Guidelines. Once accepted into the college, each applicant must submit the following documents to the Allied Health Admin. Assistant by May 15th in order to be considered by the committee: 1. Radiography Application 2. Viewing Verification Form. This form documents that the applicant has viewed the online RAD (Radiography Advisement Documentation) orientation.

14 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER: Have you been advised by a Radiography faculty member? If "NO", you will need to make an appointment for advisement by calling It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the RADIOGRAPHY APPLICATION* and VERIFICATION FORM are in the admission folder in the Allied Health Department by May 15th. Once the deadline occurs, an applicant CANNOT add any additional information to their folder. *Applications are not retained from one year to the next. If a student is not admitted to the radiography program and desires to be considered again, a new Radiography Application must be completed. There is no waiting list.

15 SELECTIVE ADMISSIONS After the May 15th deadline, all applicant information is gathered and reviewed by the Admission Committee. The members of this committee include: Radiography Program Coordinator Radiography Clinical Coordinator Division Chairperson/Dean Admissions Officer or Dean of Student Affairs Counselor and/or Faculty

16 SELECTIVE ADMISSIONS The admissions’ committee will review the submitted applicants’ information and make the selection based on the following criteria. Preference is given for the following: Completion all of the following courses with a “C” or better: -BIO 137 Anatomy and Physiology I -BIO 139 Anatomy and Physiology II -MAT 150 College Algebra -PHY171 Applied Physics or PHY 152 Introductory Physics II Highest cumulative GPA of all general education courses taken that are applicable to the radiography program curriculum.

17 PROGRAM EXPENSES Program Expenses include but are not limited to:

Once you have completed the application process to the college, contact a radiography faculty member to register for classes.

19 FINALLY….. Be sure to print and sign the Viewing Verification Form on the Radiography Program Website. This must be signed by you and returned to the Radiography Program as proof that you have completed this Advisement Session. Also, print out the Radiography Program Application, this will need to be turned in with the Viewing Verification form. (Must still make application to the college.)
