Spoken language Reading Writing Grammar, Vocabulary and Punctuation English

Spoken language Listening and responding appropriately Articulate and justify answers Participate in discussions, role play and performances Speak audibly and fluently

Reading (word reading) Apply phonic knowledge and skills as the route to decode words. Read aloud accurately books that are consistent with their phonic knowledge. Read common exception words, noting the unusual correspondences between spelling and sound. Re-read books to work on fluency.

Reading (comprehension) Being encouraged to link what they hear to their own experiences. Listen to and discuss a wide range of poems, stories and non-fiction at a level beyond that at which they could read independently. Predict what might happen on the basis of what has happened so far. Make inferences. Explain clearly their understanding of what is read to them.

Writing Working on spelling – phonics. Begin to form letters correctly. Compose a sentence orally before writing. Sequencing sentences to form short narratives. Re-read to check work makes sense. Read aloud their writing and discuss what they have written.

Grammar Leave spaces between words. Use joining words. Punctuate sentences.

Behaviour Class rules to follow. Traffic Light behaviour log in each class. House points for good behaviour/work/attitude. Everyone split into a team, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Totals across the school added each week for prize of extra playtime.

Reading at Home Work on phonics - See if they are able to pick out any sounds that they have learned in phonics that week. Encourage them to re read books to work on fluency Discuss book, ask them questions about what they are reading. Reading to your child and ask them questions based on what is read.

PPA (Planning, Preparation & Assessment) and NQT Time This year the children will have Science and Music taught to them by Mrs Johnson.

Homework Homework will be set on a Thursday. It alternates between English and Maths each week. Hand in day is Monday. Phonics spellings will be added to their books each day for the children to learn and be tested on every Friday. Children to read at home each evening. Books will be changed on a Monday and Thursday.

How can I help at home? - Working on phonics, practicing new sounds and recapping old sounds. Learning spellings and putting them into context. - Enjoying books/reading to your child/listening to your child read or discuss his/her book - Practicing writing and maths -Help your child with their homework if they need it, make a note on the sheet. Encourage your child to present homework well. -Access to the internet for research & educational sites
