10 Test marking The KS1 Tests are marked in school by the teachers.
After marking each test a raw score is calculated – this is the amount of questions each child answered correctly for each test. The raw scores for the subjects are then added together so each child will have a reading, maths and SPAG raw score. Scaled scores are used so results of tests can be compared over time with past / future cohorts of children. A conversion table is published for teachers to convert the raw score to a scaled score. The scaled score of 100 always represents the expected standard.

11 Teacher Assessment KS1 SATs tests are one part of evidence towards the whole teacher assessment. Teachers make a teacher assessment judgement on the attainment of every pupil as an individual, using a broad range of evidence from work pupils have completed independently in class, the SATs tests and other test evidence. These judgements are completed by the end of June and are reported to the Local Authority. The Teacher Assessment Frameworks for each subject details specific objectives that have to be met by the pupils. Pupils can be assessed as ‘working towards the expected standard’, ‘working at the expected standard’ and ‘working at a greater depth within the expected standard’. Moderation takes place to ensure consistency across schools although schools are not moderated every year.

12 How can you help your child prepare?
Read regularly with your child, listen to them read and focus on bringing out a ‘love of reading’. Also reading stories to your child allows them to develop language, listening skills and comprehension. Ask them questions about the texts and encourage making predictions of what might happen next. Help your child with writing, support with weekly spellings and phonics practice as needed. Write together to make shopping lists and letter writing. Help your child with maths, play times table games. Encourage them to help with cooking, weighing and measuring ingredients. Work out what time it is together. Provide opportunities for your child to pay for things in a shop, to work out how much things cost and how much change will be needed.

13 Thank You! Your time is appreciated. Any Questions?
