Welcome and Overview  Welcome to Traveling Basketball  Parent volunteer program  All Board Members are volunteers  Most Coaches are volunteers  Try to make this a positive experience for players/families  Traveling vs. In-house  More practice time in traveling basketball  Tournaments roughly every other weekend vs games every weekend  Tournaments relatively close with one overnight tournament  We want to grow the program  We want parents to be involved 3

Season Information / Timeline Cost: $330 plus $30 tryout fee (same as last year) $40 registration late fee after Sept 24 th Coaching applications accepted through Sept 25 th Tryouts Sept 27th at BHS Player / Team Announcements Posted to website by October 5 th Coaching Interviews & Selections: September 30 th - October 9 th Uniform Pickup: Wednesday, November 4 th 7:00 - 8:30 pm, Burnsville City Hall – Deposits Required: $100 Uniform Deposit; $100 Volunteer Deposit; checks made payable to “Burnsville Athletic Club” Practices begin the week of October 26th Practice Schedules posted to 6

Tournament Mar 5-6Rochester Tournament 2 Mar MYAS Boys Grade State Championship 1 Tournament schedule subject to change based on host tournament decisions 2 The Rochester tournament requires us to collect gate fees in advance (average tournament gate fees run $5-$7 per person per day), therefore we will collect this fee (approximately $25 per family) from each basketball family in January.

Tryout and Team Selection Tryout Date & Location: Sunday, September 27 th at Burnsville High School: Mandatory for All Players Tryout Times: (please plan to arrive minutes prior to your tryout time) 10:15 – 11:458th grade 11:30 - 1:007th grade 12:45 - 2:156th grade 2:00 – 3:305th grade 3:15 – 4:304th grade Before Tryouts: PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST CHECK IN WITH THEIR CHILD Each player will check in at the tryout table Each player will receive a tryout number to wear during tryouts Each player must try on a uniform and shooting shirt for the correct size; Parent/Guardian must sign sizing card 11

Tryout and Team Selection Continued… Evaluators for tryouts will be Burnsville High School Boys Basketball Coaching Staff Coach Eppen’s staff volunteers their time with no agenda Traveling coaches not involved in process Coaches are not selected yet Evaluators are objective Parents not allowed to watch tryouts Tough decisions when players are close in ability Bubble question on registration Evaluation from previous year Team needs Teams targeted for 8-10 players Level of play scheduled right after tryouts Playing Time Guidelines Intended to be fairly even throughout the season Coaches discretion per game/per tournament Barring special circumstances, each player should play in each half 12

Tryout and Team Selection Continued… Evaluation Criteria: Basketball consists of individual skill and teamwork and as a result, each player will be evaluated on both. A set of criteria will be used to evaluate each player. These include: Full Court Passing Drills: this drill will consist of players passing to teammates while running, passing out of double-teams and overall awareness of where passes must be made during full court press situations ; key elements graded include strength, accuracy and location of pass Ball Handling: this will consist of dribbling through a series of stationary defenders, using cross-over dribbles as well as dribbling with both the right and left hands; key elements graded will be position of head and eyes, height of dribble, ball control and speed Layups: left and right handed layups will be graded; key elements graded will be use of correct shooting hand, jumping off the correct foot, shots made and speed Low Block & Outside Shooting: various shooting drills will be used to evaluate players from both the low- block area and from each side of the free throw lane; key elements graded will include shooting technique, form and number of shots made 3-on-3 / 5-on-5: players will be matched with others to form a team of three or five players per team; key elements graded will include defensive positioning, court awareness, passing, shooting and aggressiveness Other: additional elements that will be considered into player evaluations include hustle, sportsmanship and teamwork 13
